I bought my GT a few months back and Im still slowly learning about some of the weird things the previous owner did to it. This is the second 99-04 GT I've owned.

Problem: The TC system is ALWAYS disabled, even after startup. In my previous 01 GT, the TC system would always turn on when you started the car (you have to turn it off every time you get in). However, in my new 02, its ALWAYS off and it wont turn back on.

WTF did this guy do to my TC?!

He either had a tuner and disabled it with that or they used to sell a product to disable the traction control for like $50.

Edit: I prefer mine to be off all the time anyways.

If it's always off, does the switch still enable it back "on?" If it does, the prior owner probably installed a "Trac Adapt" (or the like), which is a module which remembers the last setting prior to turning the car off.

Pull apart the radio trim, then remove the switch trim, and see if there's a black box sitting behind there. It should be labeled, and be about 4x2x1" or around that size.

If there is a trac- adapt box it should be located behind the gauge cluster.

But now that i think about it you should be able to turn it back on with the Tp button - the trac adapt just remembers the last setting pressed - so it looks like you have an issue with trac control or it was turned off with a tune.

Sounds to me like its turned off with the tune, especially if you cannot turn it back on by pushing the button.

I prefer it off, but you it'd be nice just knowing that I could turn it on if I wanted to. UGH.
