I saw this on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PERF...021QQitemZ310025060858QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

It claims the chip gives you 60HP increase and better MPG..Now according to the feedbacks its a Lie and its nothing more then a resistor, how can they possibly stay in business, looks like they have sold a couple of thousand and EBAY has not done anything about it so there might be some truth to it? If so realistically what kind of HP should you expect from something like this? If anyone knows exactly what there "chip" is actually doing please enlighten me.

Thanks

think about how low their costs are, resistors are dirt cheap. For every one they sell they cover the cost of 100 more resistors.

I know resistors are cheap, i get them at 0.10 a piece but just wondering if anyone knew exatcly what they are doing...

Whats funny is there return policy is money back no questions ask, however they charge $6 for shipping, they ship with a 0.41 stamp so even if you return it they make $5 from you since the shipping you paid is not given back to you just the price of the "chip" so yeah they are making alot of money on these.

the resistor tricks the sensor into thinking the air coming in is colder (i think) and by doing this allows the car to bump everything up a bit and supposedly make more power

I haven't seen the item first hand but it's nothing more than a resistor in pretty packaging that plugs into the IAT sensor. It's a known trick that was pretty popular a few years back. There were charts with the resistors values and it would tell you a certain value to use and the corresponding temps it would make the PCM think it was outside. It didn't add timing it just prevented it from pulling timing when it read the temp of the incoming air was warm.

For example if the PCM commands 14* initial timing at idle when the IAT temp was 70* then at 80* it may pull 2* of timing the resistor put in place would fool it to think it was 70* even though it was warmer. Depending on your tune from the factory (usually they are very conservative) you would be okay but if you had a tune it could cause detonation.

Obviously someone took that little trick and created a bunch of ebay BS and is making money off of the nieve people that don't know any better. Just like the people that bought the Tornado or those electronic superchargers that use to be sold on ebay.

So 60hp increase is complete BS but 10-15hp increase is possible?

nah. if it did, everyone on this board would have done it by now.

and those 60 or 70 hp they're talking about are usually (bragged) up increase numbers in hp and tq when you chip large turbo diesel engines (notice it says that it wont even work on diesel engines....and it doesnt even say mustangs next to those claims)....and even if it did something at all, it wouldnt do do anywhere near what they are saying for your car.

Nope. I would say closer to 4-5RWHP and if you leave it in too long the PCM/ECM will adjust for it. It was really something to do only at the track for short periods of time. It was also a way to make the car run more consisently because it wasn't pulling timing based on weather it was fixed at a certain temp. That's why no one really talks about it any more because 4-5RWHP for a few passes really isn't worth the trouble for most people and it really only helps if you have an open style air filter and are racing in warm areas.

- Smoother shifting (Automatic and manual transmissions) the tranny is connected to the IAT sensor??

- Smoother Idle

- Extends the life of your spark plugs ok?

- Extends the time between costly engine Tune-ups we all know how much those darn spark plugs can cost

- More low end torque THERES THE LOW END POWER

- 75%+ Quicker throttle response time

- Cleaner Engine Heads

- Cleaner and faster revs AS OPPOSED TO DIRTY REVS

- Higher Top-Speed and Improved Top-End Torque it removesthe top speed limiter too!

- Better Climbing ability mustang rock crawling?

- Improved HP and Torque Output in High Altitude Areas where the air is thin

- Increased Passing Ability

- Better and Crisp throttle response didnt he say this before?

- Circuit Protection WTF!?!?!?!?!??!

- Better Mid-High RPM Revs

- Helps your vehicle to Pass SMOG and EMISSIONS Regulations

- Street Legal Everywhere

- Pays for itself by saving gas
