Hey all,

What speedo is ideal for a 92 LX 351W powered machine? Stock gears... T-5???

Having questions on how many teeth to get on the gear as you can see from this site's choices!

Check these speedo gears

THX for any help!

your motor has nothing to do with what speedo gear you need. your running stock gears w/T5, I believe you need a 21 tooth gear for a manual tranny which is factory, if you go to a lower gear you will need a different speedo gear to correct the speedo and also remember tire size also effects the speedometer also "example" if you run taller tire than stock and you run at the same speed you will be actually moving faster than what your speedo reads.hopes this helps you out.choosing gears can get confusing

yes, he's partially right by saying your motor has nothing to do with what speedo gear to use. the only thing that needs to be given is what gear your car has in the rear end. 2.73, 3.08, and 3.27's all were stock gears. let us know what gear you have. white gear is for 3.55. i think it's a greenish gear for 3.27, red for 3.08, and black for 2.73. i may have the red and black mixed up.

If the gears are original equipment to the car in question, the code is on the vehicle certification label (rear face of driver door) under AX (for V8s, M = 2.73, Z = 3.08, and E = 3.27), or on the tag attached to the rear axle's differential housing (the ratio is stamped, there are no "codes").

If the gears are not original equipment to the car in question, either jack the rear up and count the number of driveshaft revolutions to one tire revolution or open up the differential housing and divide number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.

To know which speedometer driven gear is required you need to know which drive gear the transmission has (for T-5s, '83-mid '89 had 7T and mid '89-'95 had 8T), what the rear gear ratio is, and what the tire's RPM is (have to get that from the tire manuacturer):

Driven Gear = Drive Gear x Rear Gear Ratio x Tire's Revolutions Per Mile / 1000
