I have seen a couple questions on here about PATS, what is it and could that prevent a carfrom starting if the stock radio is removed? My car is a '98 GT by the way and I know nothing about it.

The PATS system is only integrated into the ignition cylinder. The key has a transponder in it that emits a frequency that the PATS module on the ignition cylinder must detect within an inch or so in order to engage the fuel system.

If the PATS system is protecting, the THEFT light will flash fast and constantly. You will be able to turn the starter over, but the car will never actually start (Same as holding the throttle wide open while starting- this also disables the fuel system).

Removing the radio has zero effect on any other part of the car.
