I am going to put a borla catback on my 99GT.
will I get any performance gains if I add an x-pipe
with that? Will all X-pipes make the exhaust louder?
Thanks!

You should see performance gains, and yes it will be loud but not loud like an H pipe. The H pipe gives that more traditional hot rod sound while the x pipe gives you a hollow, loud roar race car sound. I think my car with an x sounds more like an exotic than a mustang now

Would it be much louder than with my stock H pipe,
or will most of the sound change be with the cat back.
also-- any advantage to a catted x?

It will be a little louder if u where to put an exhaust on, an x-pipe will certanly change the exhaust sound and advantages with cats http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=452410 check that out.

Quick do you have cats? I left them on cus I know its ilegal in some states not to have them. Even in some cities. Yea theres no emissions in my city, but if i were to get pulled over in another state/city that had them, I'd get a big heafty fine. I just had the X put on with the cats. However Im thinking of getting a set of hiflows for it

Just a side note for you.

I am running a Borla catback with the stock mid pipe. I love the sound. I am going to put on headers & X-pipe in the future and I hope that the sound will be as good as it is now. It has a deep rumble on lower rpm's.

I have a catted X-pipe with Borla Stinger catback. I really like it - even more after I installed the Ford "Damper"/dampener clamps. Seems like it stopped all of the interior "buzzes" caused by the Stingers. Still real loud...just no rattles.

I have the setup and I noticed a difference. I noticed more power from x-pipe than from the catback. it may have been in my head though(due to increased sound). the midpipe will make it louder due to less cats. most of the sound chage is in the midpipe not the catback. even flows are relativly quite with your cats intacted.

They're a "weighted tuning fork"
Part# F85Z-5G209-AA (Ford) and got them at a "discount price" of $22.84 each ... Fits a 2000 4.6 F-150. Only place I could find to fit them was right behind the rear tires (of course) - right where the over-axle hump straightens out into the tail pipes. They're C-clamp styled. Probably could play with the mounting locations and find a better place to mount them.

Saw some Flange-mount styles on a 2001 4.6 Grand Marquis today. Left side was compact, but passenger side looked too long. Also, they're styled to fit over the catback flanges. I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same diameter as the Mustang - I didn't measure. I like the flange style better (if they fit), because you don't clamp down on the pipes...and they're located closer to the mufflers.

I have the Borla stinger catback with the magnaflow catted xpipe. I noticed nice gains. I am ditching the magnaflow xpipe this week for the Dr. Gas but you will love the sound with the magnaflow.

If you want to hear what it sounds like on my car go to my webpage there is a video there.

This past Thursday, I just had my first true mods installed: BBK LongTubes, BBK X-Pipe and the Borla Stinger Catback.

Since it was done all at once, I can't really say exactly how much more sound or performance I gained from the X-Pipe alone, but man . . . what a difference compared to stock.

Also, from what I've read, ya gotta give it a couple weeks to "break-in" before you start passing judgement on your new sound. It will change slightly -- usually it will drop a'lil deeper.

Good Luck.
