Really disappointed in my TMI Upholstery

Called TMI yesterday about getting Mach I rear seat only upholstery to match my fronts.
They had the front seat upholstery at a STEEP discount a while back ,so I picked up and installed those
thinking I could get the rear at a later date.
Sales rep was nice enough but told me to get just the rear it would have to be
special made for me (not sure why since they offer it in a set). Cost would be $662
seems kind of pricey to me but I guess that's what I get for taking advantage of the
discount they had on the fronts, the whole front and rear set is about $200 more

Just figured I'd post my experience in case someone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

Ran into the same when I called them to do an 87-89 rear seat first in 99-04 GT rear materials, and then when I wanted to see if they would sell me the 03/04 cobra style rear seat with silver center all alone to match my Recaros.

More cost effective to buy the entire kit and sell the fronts

Oh and here is my TMI disappointment story. Actually, it may be more CJ pony parts fault as well.

Saw these and loved the color

I order them, and 10 weeks goes by and CJ sends me a kit for a 64/65 mustang.

I drag them to a ups and send them back. Another 10 weeks goes by and the kit shows up and looks like this

Almost 5 months later, plus one returned set That wasn’t my fault, but was a pita to resend back. Cost me $90 out of my pocket to ship the pink covers back. They wouldn’t do a thing to help me. Even the rep was a jerk about it.

Posted a review on CJ with a pic and it was deleted.

Haven’t bought a thing from cj since. Spent thousands at LMR since

I did my seats with the same red cloth six months ago. Just last week I was noticing mine were shedding as bad as yours > I was just thinking Im going to have to go easy on mine cause this is going to be a problem . Got mine at LMR . Typical aftermarket. My newer carpets shed , and were paper thin. My 5.0 red mats have heel holes before one year. And my seats are wearing out.

I got the new red carpet from LMR . When I laid it out on the driveway, and then held it up . The sun was shining thru in spots. Aftermarket stuff is there moneymaker. What is it $100 bucks. Fits great , looks good . When it gets rubbed it collects in red balls. I dont drive the car that much. So im very carefull when I get in and out because it all comes off. Seats , carpet , and mats. Hope my Momo doesnt start to peel.

I think you do get what you pay for. With that said though, there’s a lot of cheap, aftermarket china junk out there now. I guess what do you expect considering the aftermarket is so huge for these cars that everyone is trying to get a piece.

But some aftermarket companies are better than others. Momo and Recaros find themselves in oem applications.

That settles it for me. I have some factory '05 GT seats in tan leather. I'll be color changing the original material to smoke gray. I hate crappy upholstery.

The cloth isnt that bad unless its a daily driver. If I was in this car everyday it wouldnt last more than a couple of years. The funny thing is it seems just like stock. I got $500.00 cloth $400.00 foam.kinda sucks for that much. Easy to do , and does look nice.

Post up what you think of the kit, I need to do my front seats.
I got to look at the kit yesterday. The material is a little on the stiff side.It felt kinda "burlappy". I've owned a car (not a Mustang) with a tweed like material. It was a little more supple when brand new. It also lasted well for years...in the family vehicle that hauled two little kids around. The upside was it wasn't thin and felt like it'd be durable. The sewn foam backing of the material was surprisingly thick and felt like it'd be comfortable. Used with original foam I think it make a nice fit. The biggest difference I noticed between it and Mstng93SSP's pics was the piping is vinyl and not cloth. The color matched the vinyl area of the seat nicely. I looked at the undersides for the listing wire pockets. The ones on the TMI sets are really thin material (as already mentioned in another post). I didn't see anything similar The material I did see was pretty thick relatively speaking. I'm not 100% sure these were the listing pockets as I didn't pull the kit out and lay it out completely (after all, it wasn't mine). Allseams appeared well stitched.

That's just a basic overview. It's kinda hard to get a true picture until it's installed (e.g. all seams straight, aligned, fitment, etc.). I don't know when my friend will be installing it, just that I'll be helping since between the two of us I've installed one and he hasn't. Ehh, that's what friends are for! I didn't take any pictures..sorry. I didn't see the request until I was already back home. If I get back over there in the next few days I'll take a few and post. If there's any specific questions I didn't answer, ask away and I'll try to get answers. Hope this helps.

That looks pretty nice. Was there a long wait to get the material? The TMI stuff took about 8 weeks to be shipped.

Not a long wait at all, I recall being pleasantly surprised how quickly the seat covers arrived. Can’t recall exactly how long, but I’m sure it was less than two weeks. Now that I think about it, I ordered the door panels from LMR, they were on clearance for a price I couldn’t refuse. Had to do some research to make sure the colors matched up, and then ordered the seat covers through Rock Auto (way cheaper than LMR). I believe Acme’s factory is in CA, and they were drop shipped to me (also in CA). If there’s a certain part of them you’d like to see, let me know and I’ll post another pic.
