Ok, got the 89 running as a stick shift.

I did not connect the clutch switch yet.

Will this cause a computer problem or just cause the start in gear surprise?

It won't cause the computer to blow up. The computer won't know when the clutch is pressed in. In some cars the clutch has to be released and vehicle in neutral to run a key on, engine running self diagnostic....like a cylinder balance test.

Since this is an automatic computer, this should not affect anything. Have not tried to pull codes yet,

Except for a bit of surging idle, it drives nice. Cleaned the iab and that helped.

Been running mine that way for years, Won't affect a thing. It will however allow the car to start Without the clutch. So use caution if someone else drives it.
