Hi guys I was wondering for my 99 4.6 GT what the other options for independent rear suspension would be besides the cobra as in cheaper. What would the approx prices be? Also what kind of power it can take?Is the cobra irs strongest?
Cobra IRS is the only bolt in IRS option. Find someone with a Cobra that will trade with you. I swapped a guy with an 03 Cobra this summer for my 03 GT SRA/suspension. Cost me $500(my half of the labor). a new set of 3.73's and an install kit I threw in since I decided 3.55's where I wanted to be with gearing. VRI (Voodoo Racing Innovations) took this pick mid swap.
Yeah I thought id mention it since your name is jet mechanic lol because I want to fly fighters after college And interesting guess I really should aim for the 03/04 one...Just what the world needs, another damn fighter pilot. [emoji12] But I digress.... If you get the IRS from an 03 or 04, I don't think they need much for that level. Already has 31 spline diff and half shaft. Only real complaint I see is the diff case cracking. The 99/01 had weaker half shafts and were more prone to breakage, IIRC. Replace all the rubber bushings with good bushings would be a biggie with either. Now, let's see how I did. @LaserSVT your opinion kind sir.
I was a USAF crew chief. 6 years F-16 and 3 years F -117. My stealth was 83-0807. Fighter pilots are actually a pretty great bunch of folks. I wanted to be one, then I got glasses in the fourth grade. So much for that.
Two questions. When was your dad at Holloman, and was he a Tomcat driver?
I got out in 99. I just wondered cause I launched an F14 guy out in my jet around 98. You will find the aviation community can be fairly small. Run into a lot of people you know through out the years.
Well, I can't speak about the Navy, but the AF has become a politically correct pain in the ass. If zero vis, night time traps don't scare the crap out of you, I think I go Navy. I got out in 99, but I'm currently a contract mechanic at Nellis. See the AF fighter world everyday.
Find a school with Air Force ROTC and get your foot in the door that way. Lol, way cheaperAh ok. Im really surprised you got it that cheap. Actually im jealous. When im done paying off the terminator swap for my car ill probably put in irs...also what can i do to it to make it withstand 5-600 whp? i plan on drifting and sometimes drag strip...but irs is a little way off gotta save for flight school soon tryna become military pilot after college lol
not eligible for 4 year rotc. grades fell in high school when dad died and the only thing that excelled was my wrestling leading team with pins etc lol. 2 or 3 year rotc would work air force or navy.Find a school with Air Force ROTC and get your foot in the door that way. Lol, way cheaper
