this is what I found on the virginia website for the code i got
§ 46.2-852. Reckless driving; general rule.
"Irrespective of the maximum speeds permitted by law, any person who drives a vehicle on any highway recklessly or at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person shall be guilty of reckless driving."

i really didnt mean to do it. i was eating my fries on the way home from wendys at a light. there was a car in front of me. light turned green and i was a little late starting. i went on and was probably going about 25ish when i switched. tired chirped, lights came on ect..... I guess i have to wait to see what the cop says in court. Ill probably get a lawyer because it does have a hefty fine. Its a misdemeanor

I had a nearly identical situation today! I got an unsafe start, and speeding. I pulled out of a parking lot (complete stop, turn signal, everything), then i'm driving down the road and there are two guys ont he side of teh road staring at my car, so I rev it and pull through first. I drive 1/2 mile and am about to get out at a Best Buy parking lot when a cop pulls up behind me. First thing he says is "how old are you??" I reply "19, why" and he basically says "don't ask questions". Next up he's like "why were you squeelin the tires back there??" to which I reply "I wasn't" blank stare from the pig, "I have no excuse, I wasn't" He walks away, comes back TWENTY minutes later, hands me a ticket for speeding, saying I was going 47 in a 35, which is impossible because I never left first gear when accelerating, and second because he had JUST said before that he didn't see me pull out, he just heard me "squeel the tires"...which again, is impossible - my exhaust is FAR to loud to hear any tire noise 
Anyway, when he gives me the tickets i notice the first is labeled 11:21AM...second is labeled 11:23AM...so it took him two minutes to write out the tickets...so thats 4 minutes...takes 5 minutes MAX to run my license (which there would be no reason to, the plates read fine, the car isn't stolen)...so thats 9 minutes...so what was he doing for the remaining 11?? While I was sitting there he was on his cell phone, laughing and chatting away.
I'm going to take it to court for the unsafe start - it's complete BS. They aren't even expensive, only $130 total for both...but unsafe start is like 4 points, plus 2 points for the "speeding"!

That sucks for you guys. The cops in my town dont care if the car sounds good and all. they only give the bs tickets to the ricers who rev on people right in front of the cops. I know of a cop here in town that bet a guy in a new charger r/t that he could beat him across town and they actually did race, but it was at about 3am and the cop got beat really bad. I knew i woulda been safe in my mustang because i was dead even with the charger.

Yeah, unfortunately the cops are getting so "ticket-happy". I just try not to do anything that would even constitute a ticket. A chirp to 2nd is a ticket, accelerating quickly is a ticket, reving your engine is a ticket. It sucks, but you just have to be careful when you do that stuff. If I was you, I would just say that you chirped 2nd by accident because you are learning how to drive stick. Just a thought??

Well, the ticket he gave you should be thrown out when you go to court. That is NOT reckless driving. In my state, a reckless driving ticket is 6 points and you can go to jail. If anything, the cop should have given you one of those "excessive acceleration" (or whatever) tickets ...

Same thing with the cop "making up crap" happened to me in McCordsville
He wasn't around when I passed on a double yellow but what made mine "wreckless" is he put that I did it on a hill with less than 500ft of visibility. There are no damn hills in Indiana with an airport on one side and CORN on the other! Idiot just didn't like me.. lol.

reckless driving is automatic 6 points 400 dollars here in SC... and they give it out like its herpes
first off take it to court and tell them you want to see a video of you being tapedfor speeding, also make sure you tell them you never left 1st gear and be sure to have gear ratios and maximum rpm plus tire sizes there all worked out to prove that you couldnt get to 45 in 1st gear. as for the 2nd gear chirp tell them you were just trying to keep up with traffic and just let the clutch out too quick... it happens every now and then and that you shouldnt be punished. ive been pretty lucky with not getting tickets tho i came REAL close to getting one when i was practicing my launches with stock tires at about 11:30 at night... each redlight i stopped at i was taching up to about 1400 and then slipping it out and going thru first a bit... well the last time i did it i didnt realize that teh one car that was abotu 1/8-1/4 mile behind me was a cop... you have no idea as to how tense that next 1 mile of driving was haha.

I read this interesting article and found it kind of true. The guy is a lawyer who spends large amounts of time fighting tickets/citations and said that the police hand out tickets to supposedly make you safer, but in reality, thats not true. If they REALLY wanted us to drive safer and whatnot they would sit out in the open and be visible rather than hide behind signs/buildings/etc. and clock us. You don't deter a "crime" unless you are visible, so when you hide, it's obviously not to protect us but rather to cite us and get some revenue flowing. Yeah yeah they need revenue, but it always seems like you hear some police officers hiding behind the "i'm only doing it to protect you sir/ma'am"
That's because you are young. They seem to pick on younger drivers in quick cars. When the locals here got the new Charger I revved at him at a light and he revved back. HE barked off the line when the light turned green. I game him the thumbs up when I caught up again.
