first question:

i hear running 1.7's with factory valve covers is a hit or miss as far as clearance. correct?

next questions:

if i run tall deck valve covers to clear 1.7's, i will then have to run a intake spacer to clear the valve covers. after i do that, will the factory hood close?

im guessing the strut tower brace is just totally out of the question? lol

well i know they recomend a 3/8 spacer to clear the valve covers with a hci kit to get the egr away but thats on stock valve covers....3/8 does as mentioned rub the carpet under the hood....so it may be close you might need a taller spacer?? do you have a egr?

fox valve covers with the oil baffel removed will clear MOST 1.7 rockers and will fit without an intake spacer on a cobra intake. I'm currently running the 1/2in spacer and the front bolt on the intake barely touches the hood blanket on the cobra intake

guys i appreciate all the input.

if i have to run tall decks, is it likly i can get away with a 3/8 spacer? surely wont have to go to a 1" spacer will i?

(will be using a TFS street intake upper and lower and motorsport covers)

i just hate to spend money on a hood

I'm waiting on my engine to be finished. Kinda in the same boat only I have a 96 Cobra hood. I've got another 2 weeks before I get the engine, but I most likely won't put the hood back on until it's running right. Mine will be the TrickFlow Track Heat and 3/8 spacer over the TrickFlow covers.

Be sure to post an update if you find out. I'll try to do the same.

i appreciate that. you will know before i will more than likely.

btw, is those trickflow covers tall?

Taller than stock yes. I bought the Trick Flow top end kit. I'm ashamed to admit it, I've had the kit for a month, and haven't seen any of the parts yet. I had them shipped straight to the engine builder which is a a couple hours away. :(

well a 3/8 spacer is all the bigger that you can go as that already hits the carpet on the underside of the hood....w/ the 3/8 the egr will clear stock valves if your running the egr still you might have more of a issue with tall valve covers....?

The reason I ran the spacer was for clearence w/ the egr and if im not mistaken my injectors needed clearence also. Dont quote me on that as its been a while since i swaped the intake.
