It's a little more complicated than just retrofitting seats. There are crash sensors that tell the bags to go off in a side crash and not to go off in a frontal or rear impact.

I would be shocked if anyone really would do it as a retrofit, primarily because of potential liability issues.
in the event of an accident, if something were to go wrong the implications could be huge,

I'm sure it can be done, and if done by a dealer there should be no liability issues. Big issue though is the cost. Much more than than buying it as an option.

i would be that you will never find a dealer that would touch it. no matter who did the work, ther would always be liability if something went wrong. even the best tech can make a mistake, and it they did not operate correctly and someone was injured or worse the dealer wont be owning a dealership much longer.
