Hey Gang:

Just wanted to let everyone know that the car and I are still alive... It is running and I believe will put down some pretty good N/A numbers this spring (high 10's perhaps)... I don't have the squeeze installed and will probably run it N/A through the summer and then do the juice next winter... Will be putting the final touches on it this winter which "might" include new paint... I will be staying with the Emerald Green, but perhaps with a little more metal flake... I also want to put a simple silver graphic that follows the C-pillar down and then up towards the front door... This is just to change things up a bit... I might also paint the cowl with the same silver... For those of you who might not know what all I (and KillrB have done to the car in the past three years - here's a little list of the hight points:

  • 408 stroker motor with forged internals
  • Spyder intake.
  • 42 lb injectors.
  • Jay Allen custom cam.
  • 90mm throttle body.
  • Anderson powerpipe.
  • Hooker LT headers.
  • Lentech tranny
  • PA Performance tubular K-member and A-arms.
  • Six point cage with rear shock brace.
  • Line lock.
  • Aeromotive fuel system w/sumped tank.
  • Eibach rear drag springs with air bag.
  • Maier cowl hood w/vents.
  • Arm rest delete.

I'll be tuning the car with my PMS...

Other than little stuff, the only major thing that I have left is that we moved the battery box to the center of the rear hatch were the spare tire goes. I need to finish off that area and then put down the rear hatch carpet.

The last thing I need to do is license the car... The project took so long that the license expired!!!!

Hope to see you all soon....

John:

I am very pleased with the seat of the pants once I got the A/F gauge hooked up and adjusted the fuel pressure a bit... My first few test runs it was running way rich... Once I leaned it out some - holy ****!!! I get a total kick out of it because it doesn't matter whether I am starting from a stop, going 30 miles an hour, or going 60 miles an hour -- when I drop the hammer, the rear end just comes loose... The torque is amazing... One of the problems that I am going to have is getting the rear end to hook... It used to hook well on the N20, but that was then... I haven't yet put on any DR's to see what that does... The other thing that I am actually a little bit afraid of is what is going to happen with the nose... I added weight with the Windsor block, but took off a lot of weight with the tubular front, fiberglass hood, and spyder intake... This is going to be an interesting spring if I can get it tuned for the full 1/4 mile...

You cannot step on the gas shod with street tires. I am helpless with street tires. A Honda could beat me. It's also dangerous. DR's at the track are a different story.

I'm learning that... With the old 302 through the AOD I could romp on it anytime with my street tires and it would hook... That is not the case with the 408, even though the car is an automatic... Who knows, maybe I am too optimistic with the high 10's thinking, but that would be great!!! It would allow me to dip into the
9's with a very modest shot of N2O... If I am running low 11's in N/A form, I can still hit the 9's on the squeeze, but it might be more that I am willing to spray on something as simple as a stock 351 block... As you can see, my ultimate goal is to be able to say it is a 9 second car... Course, the way that cars are just getting faster and faster, a 9 second car is soon to be (yawn) ho hum....

You could well be in the 10's. My car ran 123mhp, which is 10 second mph, but I must granny shift the stock T5 or I'll splatter it all over the track. It's hard to run 10's when you lift off the gas three times going down the track. However, you won't have to lift.

I switched to a hydraulic roller cam that is milder than the mechanical flat I was using. I don't know the impact of that change. I also re ringed with much tighter end gaps so nitrous is not an option for me.

Remind me what heads you chose?

I hope you can race with the Ford Team this coming year. Pacific is implimenting big changes in format; it looks like we might be racing Saturday's about noon ish. I am going to be the race director at PR, so get that thing licensed.

No kidding? That would be awesome. I would be able to race at Pacific this year.

Now it's looking like we are back racing on Friday's at PR but Saturdays at Bremertoon. Again, we are still negotiating; it's not finalized yet. There will be fewer races this year at each track. Some felt the season was too long last year.
