Thoughts/experience with BamaChips XCalibrator?

I started with Bamachips and ended up with Brenspeed. His tunes just didn't seem to be compatible with my cars, and at the time, he was quite slow at replying to emails. He's a stand-up guy, though, and most people have had great results with his tunes.

I'm also in the same market and its down to Brenspeed and Bamachips. But to second DF's comment, I haven't even ordered from Bama yet and he is slow at replying to emails. I'm sure that he is busy and I'm in no hurry. However, I'm going to start emailing Brenspeed also.

Doug at bama is a ford guru, he knows fords and how to make them run. He's highly respected across the country for his tunes. I had bama on my 04 ranger 4.0, it was good for 14 hp at the wheels and 20 foot pounds.

I'd like to solicit any opinions and experiences with the XCalibrator. Comments will be sincerely appreciated.

I noticed in your sig that you have an auto trans. If you are looking for a tune that truly does your auto justice, then Doug at Bama is the man! I got an X3 from him for my 2006 GT auto and I LOVE it. My car stock ran 14.00 - 13.90 @99 mph and with just Doug's tune I run consistant 13.3s @105 mph. The torque management tweaks he does make such a HUGE difference, not to mention the throttle response.

He can be a little slow on email response, but to me it's worth it for the gain I got.

I ordered one yesterday!

I asked for mild tunes: 87 performance, 89 performance, 89 torque. Octane only goes up to 91 here.

I did notice he paid a lot of attention to the automatics so yes, that was one of the reasons I am buying from him.

He return email showed a lot of thought and concern. Douglas told me he could set the tune so the OD does not kick in till 55mph. He also asked me to voice some of my concerns on how the car behaved so he could do the tune accordingly. I told him (in addition to the throttle lag) that the car upshifted too quickly and when driving 25-30 mph in the city, the car seemed to be in a higher gear than it should be, also when I give it some gas, the engine gets louder, and doesn't want to downshift.

Also, stoopid me. I couldn't find the PCM and I gave him every alphanumeric I could find off of the fusebox. He gave me a kind reply..... something like Kevin you're looking at the fusebox and not the PCM. He then attached a picture of the PCM with the code sticker circled in yellow with a arrow pointing to it.

At this point, I don't think I could go wrong with Bama.

I went with Doug and he was really cool. Called me on my Cell phone to make sure everything was there. I got a bit unlucky because I bought my combo during the switch from Xcal2 to Xcal3 and at the time he was not comfortable with shipping out the X3 until all the bugs had been worked out but he asked me anyways so I went with a recommendation and got a free painted to match JLTII option so I was happy. The man is basically a one man band so that's why his e-mails are slow to come by. About his tune, my 93 race had some issues at first it was pinging a little past 4K RPM. Fuel quality and other local variables were probably responsible so I e-mailed him and in the reply he sent me a revised tune with a little less timing past 4K which fixed the problem at no charge.

I got nothing but good things to say about Bamachips.
