It's true, our cars are heavy!

Well, when I weighed mine, it was just a 302 with iron heads. No smog/egr, no fender weights and dogbone, all of sound deadening inside door panels removed, x brace under car, no rear seats, pro stars all around, and removed the steel plate under the steering column, and since it had no air bags, I didn't have to remove those. Besides that, nothing else was removed. I can't wait to see what it'll weigh with tubular k-member, a-arms and coil overs.

First, that is a lot of weight removed but still seems extremely low considering the curb weight (stripped) is 300# higher. Make sure you are going to a good scale like KC and myself and maybe have it re-weighed. If there were someone else on here that weighed their vert and it came in that low I might believe it but so far both myself and KC are much higher. Not that I am doubting you, just that number is way off to our finding and the documented curb weights.

It's a tough one for some people though.. like arguing about someone's rwhp #'s it can get heated. I am just looking for fact.

To answer your question yes I did have it weighed. 3700#. I will pull up some other folks that had verts weighing near that too.

Quoting you again KC:
"I'm not sure what a 94-95 'vert weighs stock. I do know that this car weighed 3803lbs with me, a full tank of fuel, spare/jack, and the stock iron heads."

I don't know what options he had here or what he had removed..

Thanks. Was that with you in it? How much gas? I guess heads subtracted 40-50#, fb hood ..15#?, nitrous adds 30# prolly. So that's roughly 60 or so # lighter. Do you have subframes? Aftermarket rims, etc..what is a steeda "g-track?"

That was without a driver.

A full tank compared to an empty tank changes things (front/rear percentages). Same with aluminum heads. Taking weight off the front, moves the percentage to the back, so to speak.

A stock vert will weigh in the 3500 lb. range with a T5, typical trim.

Hopefully someone can back this up with a scale that is not at a truck stop.

I'd trust a scale from a truck stop or a garbage dump over anything I found at a race track or a dyno shop. Here in Ontario, they're regulated by the Provincial Government through the Ministry of Weights and Measures and must be within +/- 20lbs by law.

That’s as accurate as you’re going to get with any automotive scale.

In fact Pokageek, I'd be more inclined to believe that the scale you weighed your car on was the one that's out to lunch, not everyone elses.

You could be right but who exactly is everyone? We have one person 95vert with a way low number based on everything we know (nothing personal at all) and whose stock numbers and exact options are unknown.

We have several people who's cars fall more in line with mine like 3600+#. I will find the other examples and post them.

Updated facts:

Definition CURB Weight (3450) - "The weight of a fueled automobile with standard equipment but without cargo or passengers." So this means WITH fuel but NO OPTIONS. Again, that means my car would weigh (with previous options listed) at least 3600+# and an auto could way 3700#:

I am surprised we don't have anymore takers on this thread that have weighed their verts. :stick:

I found another guy after searching who's car weighs 4100# with him in it but he is 300# and has a subwoofer in the back lol.

Based on the facts known and after looking at other threads and weights, I am going to say that either my car is 100# heavy somehow or the scale is a little off  and the weight of a stock vert 5spd is in fact 3600#. With an auto heading to 3700#. It's more than I thought but I read that they vert top frame, 25# weight, rims and/or options, cross-brace, top motor and stuff all accounts for like 250# from the coupe.

Now I am off to find 50-100# of gold bars hidden in may car!

Yea my car is heavy in the back. MTX 9500 12" and My Odyssey 2150 battery are at least 150lbs in the trunk. Thens the MM Sub frames blah blah. I live off i95 ....I should find a truck stop/ Weight station somewhere.

That's cool. In the meantime I am going to find more ways to lighten this car. I am thinking eventually:

1. Tubular k-member.
2. Lighter seats.
3. Pull out stereo components and put in 2 gauges and aluminum plate in center console.
4. Take out that stupid radio-shack alarm system someone b4 me added.
5. Battery in back for better distribution...but that does add about 10# in cabling. :Damnit:

Ok. Sorry for beating the topic to death. :dead: And I know some of you will hate me cuz like you want our cars to be lighter, lol.

Hey i'm used to driving a Lincoln....If i want it to go faster ill just add more power. I just like knowing i have excessive amounts of power on tap. My car is a recreational vehicle....I may take it to the track for fun...but if i wanted speed i would so what im planning in doing possibly in the future. Building something like a T-REX with a 302 Off half a go cart chassis/ motorcycle fork...Ive really been spinning this idea. Its probably another one i shoulda patented. Next thing i know ill see a LS9 T-Rex flying down the street.

p.s. I looked up a XR7 and it is 120# heavier with a v6:

Curb Weight: 3564 lbs

94' Lincoln Mark VIII 320# heavier ..
Curb Weight: 3768 lbs.

94' Lincoln Town Car 600# heavier:
Curb Weight: 4039 lbs.

99' LS1 same weight as vert:
Curb Weight: 3439 lbs.

99' LS1 Vert 120# heavier:
Curb Weight: 3574 lbs

p.s. I looked up a XR7 and it is 120# heavier with a v6:

Curb Weight: 3564 lbs
The V6 XR7 is a lot heavier than that. It's got the Supercharged 3.8L V6 (same as the one in the Thunderbird SC) and clocks in at around 3,800lbs. That includes manifolds, inlet piping, intercooler and piping and blower. Not to mention the early XR7's with the V6 came with a very heavy air ride suspension.

The standard LS models with the N/A V6 comes in at around 3560-3580lbs and the XR7 V8 sits at about 3,725-3,740lbs.

Ahh. I think I looked up 1994 and it may have not had that model then. I was surprised to see it was as heavier than the vert even with a v-6. That s/c prolly more than makes up for the weight tho.:nice:

Yeah, you also need to realize that with an over all length of over 16 1/2-ft, a width of just over 6-ft, and a wheelbase of 113" (over a foot longer than the Fox4 chassis) there's no denying the MN12 is just a big friggin car as a whole. And since all models, regardless of engine size got the big heavy IRS out back, its no surprise that even the base model would be heavier than the much smaller by comparison SN95....even in a convertible.

Since truck stop scales are calibrated for much higher weights, this can deviate the 3-4K lb vehicles.

This is a friend's scales that he uses to "calibrate" his dirt track race car's weights in at around 3,000 lbs. They help him win races as he cuts the weight within just a few lbs of the track weighers figures.

They also have been very consistent in my findings with THIS scale.

LOL I forgot about that. Honestly that probably does add up to about 10# though. I'll be getting that tubular k-member at some point tho Rick. :nice:

I also have to give Rick a thumbs up on getting my car tuned by the right people. Thanks Rick! :)

When I last took mine to the strip, I weighed in at 3760lbs with me, a speaker box and half a tank of gas. Mine is a 5spd hard top. I figure after 220lbs for myself, 50lbs speaker box, 60lbs of gas, the car would be like 3400-3450lbs dry. That was with a bone stock car. The scale was at the strip where you get your simeslip.

I did not know they had IRS! I bet it would handle exceptionally well with proper weight distribution. I was also unaware the IRS made a car heavier. Maybe it that the live axle just looks heavier, lol.

Yeah, all MN12's ('89-'97) had IRS. As far as weight....I dunno....which one of these set ups looks heavier to you. :D

IRSvs8.8.webp

As far as handling, yeah...you'd be surprised. It seems I'm able to out corner most any stock Mustang with my Luxobarge and all I've really got is a set of Supercoupe springs and some 17x8's from a '97 Cobra wrapped in 255/50's all the way around.

I think both the long wheel base and IRS really do wonders for the car...even if it is a tank.
