I think I might have stumped the guys on the 2.3l forum, so I thought maybe you guys might have some ideas.

I replaced the valve cover gasket on my '87 2.3 last Friday. After getting it all put back together, I checked to make sure all of the hoses, lines, wires, and linkages were hooked up. It looked like all of them were, so I started it up. It ran a little rough, but I didn't think anything of it. As soon as I put it in reverse to back it out of my driveway, it coughed, shuddered, and then died. When I tried to restart it, it acted like it wasn't getting fuel. It cranked over perfectly, but it wouldn't start. I've gone back and re-checked all the hoses, electrical plugs, and lines, and everything I can find was hooked up. How can I check to see if I'm getting fuel? What other possibilities could it be? Thanks!

is that right??!!! i think your stumped

i have tried my best to help you but you just dont listen. a motor requires certain things to run,:stupid:

fuel ( gasoline, diesel, etc.)

air

compression

spark

and then they all have to do there thing at the right time which brings in the timing on the motor

you have yet to state whether or not you have spark and fuel:nonono:

whats you base timing set at?

these all things that are need to know if we are going to help you out its not that we are stumped you just wont provide the right info and im not tryin to sound like an ass but maybe you should get it to a shop and let someone who knows what their doing work on it

it just kinda bugs me that ive told you the same thing 3 or 4 times now then you jump forums and ask a 4.6 forum the same thing dude they have 4.6 modular motors nuthing is the same between the two( 4.6 vs 2.3)

a 2.3 is one of the simplest motors to work with that i have ever messed with. i dunno whatelse to tell you other than ......................................

you just cant fix ignorance, stupididity,or just flat out dumbness lol take you pick of which one you fall under im gonna say ignorance towards what your messing with

like i said not trying to be an ass but its so simple a chimp could do it :rlaugh:

lol

yea its a little harsh but damn you tell the guy the same thing over and over adn he comes here basically sayin that us 2.3 guys dont know anything. i have a 2.3 that runs low 13's without the bottle, i dunno what it does with the bottle ive never been down the track with it hooked up but i do know that i left my buddy in his procharged 5.0(6lbs) i pulled away from him not hard but i pulled him to third then we were dead even

not trying to toot my horn or anything but i think i know what im talkin about lol

sorry guys but sometimes you have to be harsh lol

DONT TAKE IT PERSONAL 87 2.3:nice: MAYBE ITLL JUMP START YOU TO ACTUALY LOOK AT YOUR CAR A LITTLE MORE IN DEPTH

when you figure it out youll probably say duh why didnt i see that

we have all been there at one time or another and we all have to start somewhere

nobody says anyone HAS to listen to anyone.

check fuel pressure first. check injector firing. check plug condition.

2.3 guy. check your cam timing marks. verify your distributor is pointing near the cap where you have #1 plug wire run to. electronic ignition WILL fire if its remotely close. but if the cam timing is off forget it. if those things are good look, pull the valve cover and verify followers. then verify compression.

wiggle the plug around on the distributer maybe you dont have the module plugged in the whole way check all your wires make sure that no connection is loose

do you hear your fuel pump running?

lemme ask this when you unhooked the wires you unhooked did you disconnect the battery? i just hope you didnt short something important check your fuses too!

Thanks, I really will do that.

It appears that I have offended some of you. I apologize. I read your advice on the 2.3 forum, and thought it was really good. I was planning on doing what you recomended, I just wanted "another" opinion. I hope I didn't hurt you too much and I'm sorry.
