Are 30lbs too big?????

So I have twin turbo charged my 1993 lx mustang. It has 7-9 lbs for wastegates. I have installed 75mm throttle body, 75mm mass air, 30lb injectors, 255lph fuel pump, I had my stock heads cleaned up and new seals put in and my upper all cleaned too. My question is when i was driving it last night every time that i down shifted i had a white cloud behind me. Other than that the car i running great and not a problem just when i down shift. I think that this is a cloud of unbernt fuel (from what i have heard) so whats the problem? Are my injectors too big or could one be dumping fuel in when its suppost to be closed? and i did have a custom chip made for my setup could this possiblly what my problem is. I dont have a air fuel meter so i really have no idea what the ratio is? Thanks for all the help
 
I would def say 30s are not to big. I like you do not have a wide band guage, but it is my next investment. I have 50lb injectors on my car, and im out of fuel at 5500 rpm.. But i think my prob is volume, lines,rails etc!!! When you had your heads cleaned what kind of head gaskets did you use?
 
You're twin turbo and only running 30's? That white cloud is probably coolant, from popping a headgasket from going lean! You'll probably need at least 42's, but 60's might be a better choice.

white cloud = coolant
black cloud = fuel
blue = oil

When I was planning on throwing a single turbo at my little ole pushrod, my tuner recommended 42#'ers, and that was only to hit around 350-400 at the wheels. 30's are definitely too little!!
 
I'm assuming you just bolted an ebay twin setup on your car.

Like said above, I would at least run 42's on a turbo setup. And if you haven't had your car tuned and watched the a/f, a wideband gauge should be installed.

I wonder if the smoke you are seeing is from not running a catch can. With what you have told us so far, I assume you are still using the stock pcv setup.
 
when i put my heads back on i used fel-pro gaskets all the way around. when i run my car i took the radiator cap off and i dont have any bubbles and i dont have any water in my oil. This just confuses me that its not a head gasket but im practly new so..... lol I did talk to my mechanic and he said that the smoke is prob from condensation in the engine and exhaust system. IS this possible? I do live in Iowa and its been hitting 90 to 95 degrees here. Why would the car go lean when i down shift? And im not down shifting and then hammering it all i was doing was slowing down. When i did kinda get into it i didnt have a puff of white smoke. Even tho im just running 7-9 lbs they are still small? I thought that 30s were big enough to support 350 to 400 hp? As for the pcv setup I am running a k&n breather on my head cover and i plugged the hole from the throttle body. Thanks for all of the input
 
On forced induction setups, fuel needs aren't the same as naturally aspirated.

In a simple injector calculator I entered the following.

450 crank horsepower
Max injector duty cycle at 85%
fuel pressure at 43psi

That comes out to a 39.9lb/hr injector with a BSFC of .60 (turbo application). So a 42 would be the closest safe choice.
 
With my experiences mechanics no nothing about high performance. Now thats a broad statement, but Ive talked to ASE mastertechs that had no idea what I was talking about when it comes to AFR and whats lean and whats fat etc. On a NA car hell you can run it up to 13.1 AFR and higher, on a boosted car that ratio will destroy your motor. Id recommend at least a few runs on a dyno just to see what your AFR is. Itll prolly cost about 75 bucks for 3 runs but its a great starting point. Pull your plugs, see if you have any tips missing on them. Also if there white that will indicate a lean condition. If you have missing tips on your plugs, your detonating!!!
 
ok so i drove my car this weekend and after any hour of running i didnt have any white some anymore!!!! Is it possible that what my mechanic said about the condensation was right? Thanks for all of the help guys im starting to price some 60Lbs for my car to expand but there so darn expensive, so ill have to save up. Thanks everyone for the help P.S.what would i need to do to run a catch can? What are the advantages?
 
Great!!! good to know lol So how big if lines would i need to run? So im guessing that you will run braided steel lines all the way? Also i want to ask i have a fmu that i put on my car and talking to poeple they say that i dont need it but i really have no idea. If i dont please let me know cuz i dont like the looks of it lol Thanks I see that u run outt fuel at 5500 rpm lol thats crazy. It sounds like the best idea is dyno time to find out exactly what state it's in now, before deciding what to buy next.


I agree with that the only problem i s i have to travel at least 3 hours to get to a dyno shop
If i get the moates quarterhorse could i do everything i need to do in a tuning since? I do have a guy 30 min away that could dyno my car he just doesn't have the software to change anything on my stock computer.
 
The 30's should be fine, running stock heads and a stock intake he isnt making **** for power no matter how many turbos are under the hood. Keep the injectors the way they are and get a wideband with the money you would have used for the injectors. Its a good gauge to have and really cheap insurance in the grand scheme.

I would guess your motor isnt making a whole lot over 300 at the tire with all the stock parts and the low boost, and if i had to put money on it i would say that the white smoke is from a blown head gasket that is seeping a little coolant into the cylinders, and burning off in the chambers, thats why your not seeing it in the oil.

Thats what I thought for HP and I am going to get a wideband its needed.

The thing about the head gaskets is i just changed them. Maybe i did something wrong and it seeped a little. And the smoke is now gone, I think that the prob was when i did blow a head gasket i had antifreeze in the exhaust and i think that it was just burning it up because now it gone.
 
if you remove them one at a time you could probly sneak studs in there without removing the heads, but before doing that i would drain the water out of the block because the bottom holes go into water....

now that i say that, did you use any kind of sealer on the lower bolts? that could cause water seepage if you didnt and may explain the white smoke. When i did studs on my stock block i used pipe dope on the lower holes in the block to seal them up
