I have an annoying Thumping or I don't want to call it a knocking noice.. I started my car up the other day and once it idled down I heard a strange noise coming from the front, I narrowed down to the water pump area, could the water pump cause a thumping sound if its bad? Vitals of the car seem good from watching the gauges and it doesn't seem to have an issue running of driving. The car has been sitting a lot the last year or so, I haven't had much time to drive it, maybe 200 miles in the last year.. Car is a 92, 5.0 with about 56k miles.. Any suggestions would be helpful..

Usually with a bearing issue the waterpump squeels, look under the water pump at the harmonic blancer and see if it is wobbling around. You could remove the belt to see if it still makes the noise as well.

No way, that is probably one of the worst dollar per hp mods there is. Buy a ford fan clutch replacement and be done with it.

That's what I wish I had done instead of throw out $180+ on an electric fan. But, of course I wouldn't be complaining if the fan would actually work like it's supposed to.

I got my fan in for about $125. Not a bad investment for a slight horsepower and mileage bump and more consistent cooling.

My fan was shot and an OE replacement was damn near the same price.
