Rock Of Ages...

The Rock Star movie is, I THINK, loosely based on the Judas Priest singer replacement story.
Very loosely....yeah. I think the only thing Halford and the character who resembled him had in common in this film is that they were both gay and both temporarily replaced.

Well, all that plus the whole finding a fan to replace him with. The story I recall goes on about how they (drummer and guitarist for JP) found Tim "Ripper" Ownes playing in British Steel at a bar completely at random, and upon hearing him sing actually thought it was Halford. They recruited him right there at the bar. Of course, the movie twists it around quite a bit, but I'd say it's too similar of a story to be coincidence. I don't think they really portrayed the singer in Rockstar as being gay...he was pretty flamboyant, wore a wig and liked scarves, but I don't recall anything literally portraying him as being gay. After all, show me an '80s hair band that didn't look and dress like women and act flamboyant.

You need to watch that clip posted again. They made multiple mentions of him being gay...

Bobby : Have you listened to the lyrics of "Stand Up"? Did you really think that Kim was a girl?

Chris : Kim was a guy?
Bobby : Yeah, Kim was a guy. He's my lover, to the horror of these sausage-jockeys.

Curt : As if we give a toss who you're buggering bobby.

Ghode : Yeah man, Just keep your dick away from me!

Chris : You're gay?

Bobby : No, I got both my nipples pierced and bought a house in Morocco because I'm John :leghump:ing Wayne!

The Priest story is actually pretty cool. Owens always said that he knew he was temporary and that Halford was coming back all along. Basically, he knew the gig and was happy with it. Ironically, Halford has always maintained that he liked (loved) how Owens sounded and approved of the choice. Even better, upon meeting, the two guys got along famously. Halford has actually gone on stage with the guy on occasion and sung with him after he left the band. Owens, in interviews, has said that anytime Halford is in the area, he always extends invites to Ripper. That's pretty classy.

I fully admit to being a Priest fan (big fan), but the more I hear about Halford and all, dude is a class act.

I never cared for the albums JP did with Owens. For me though, I can't really get into any of the JP albums except Painkiller. I do have some Halford albums that are pretty badass.
