Anyone like camping?

Done some pretty primitive camping before but mostly campsites at a lake or park.

Looking into an overnight canoe trip. Since I moved to TN the Duck River is close and a great small river to canoe. Figure if I do an overnight thinking of the basics I would need.

Sleeping bag plus maybe a small tent.

Knife, maybe a small hatchet for firewood.

Matches. Flashlight. TP or paper towels.

Small cooler. Food stuffs either just a pack of hot dogs or maybe some easy canned food.

Goal would be to fit pretty much everything into a backpack with the sleeping bag strapped to the top.

Any suggestions? Would just be one night so no huge deal but like to be prepared.

I was going to say take a compass, but if it's a business run canoe trip rental, just stay put and someone will be by within the next day or two.

I sense a slight bit of doubt. Not sure if I should take your advice and just extend my trip until they repo the canoe..or if I should just stay put for the cavalry.

They do have a no alcohol clause.

I like camping, but in the easy going sense. Like Pinecrest, CA. Or a decently placed KOA.

Most of my camping trips were either when I was married or with friends who had kids. Thus having a bathroom area and a place to get water was always handy. Some had electric too and we would run a maze of cords to like 8 tents for fans or whatever.

Either way I like being outside and really love being on the water.

Does not hurt my feelings to wake up and find a tree to lean against and take a dump.

I hate camping.

Joined Cub Scouts in the 3rd grade because I really wanted to do the pinewood derby and two other things. After having quit Karate, baseball, basketball, and a few other activities, that's the one my parents chose to draw a line for, I was forced to stay in scouting until I got my Eagle or turned 18, whichever came first. All that damned camping I didn't want to do? Yeah, ruined camping for me.

So I'm a freaking Eagle Scout that hates camping.

I'm always too busy to have time, but I truly feel at home in the woods. I grew up playing in the woods, in creeks, etc, so going back out into nature makes me feel "whole" again. I would love to pack up a ruck sack and go hiking into the middle of flippin nowhere and spend about a week disconnected from every kind of technology there is except maybe a flashlight and a GPS device.

All good ideas/suggestions for Doc. However I note the lack of mention of taking a big breasted babe along for night time activities.

I have a canteen and compass. A canoe would hold a decent amount of gear just don't want to go overboard.

Firearms are prohibited but don't think that would stop me.

Oh and for the record...butt naked activities with no one around check.

Activities about 30 feet off a hiking trail as people walk past...check and mate.

My family use to camp when I was younger with a huge Airstream camper. Man that was fun until one day a bunch of us were doing WWE wrestling on one side of the camper it started rolling, I dove out the front door...I was gone while everyone was still inside. Camper slammed into a tree luckily because it would have kept going. Trip over. Dad sold it shortly after with a huge tree dent in it. Best trip ever, upstate New York.
