I Don't Believe Them

With Dish, I think external drive access is included with the DVR fee. I am not sure about the Hopper and Joeys, but the older boxes I have use an external drive (or more than one) for movies and archived stuff. The DVR in the unit is for watch and delete shows. It is too bad you can not use the cable USB like this.

The cable companies need to stop putting hard drives into boxes... period. They're losing ground daily and the closest thing they have to cloud servers are their very own hardware.

There's currently no reason why we should not be saving our shows, in an account for each individual, that we can connect to regardless of device. What's more is that I might decide to take the family to Disney World. I should need only to broadcast my credentials to the cable box via my cell in the hotel room and have access to everything I ever recorded. It goes where I go. They already possess the largest part of the infrastructure necessary to do this.

Hello cable companies.... Ya'll need to get with the program or go the way of the Do-Do bird.

Video Pronz at Disney, Walt would not approve. I tried everything to try to gain network access to the box, and much like Apple, they are not giving anything up.
