Noise with New Front End Parts

Alignment shop will diagnose this for you without guesswork. You can then decide whether to have them do it or not. Firestone will do it for free and give you a printout of parts needed that you can take with you to NAPA.

SURPRISE! piece of piston in my oil pan

Now I got the oil pan in (no leaks!) and I started her up. She fired right away and sounded great. It really ran as nice as it always has, so no piston replacement for me. I think I'll drive it like I never found out. Thanks to everyone for all the comments.

SURPRISE! piece of piston in my oil pan

I just got the pan down in my 5 year old rebuilt 289. I found a spotless pan inside, except for this 2" piece of piston. It looks like the ear tabs that hang down on eith side of all the pistons. I could not see which piston it came from without rotating the engine to get a look at the...

2 vacuum advance hose connections on a 289?

I have the base timing at 6BTC with the vacuum advance line disconnected and plugged. When reconnected the timing advances 20 degrees at idle! I am told this is due to a vacuum advance connection with a constant vacuum source as opposed to ported, which will give me no vacuum at idle. The...
