Can't figure out what the sound is?

I would also go with pinging as well. The "marbles in a tin can" analogy has been used sporadically to describe the sound. If you switch to 91 octane and the problem goes away, it's pinging. If so, do a search on here for pinging and prepare to read for hours and hours & months of working under...

NEED ADVICE FOR MY 95 STANG GT!!!

Even though gears don't increase hp, they do increase tractive effort a lot. If I did it all over again, this would be my second mod, right after the o/r X-pipe. Both of them are the biggest seat-o-pants gains. The other bolt-ons are relatively useless compared to gears & o/r X pipe. Do a...

    Compression

if you dont have enough engine/head info, you can do a compression test, divide your results by 14.7 and that is a rough idea of your CR.

high idle...unplugged IAC w/ no change

if you suspect you tps, check your tps voltage....just under 1.0V is normal at idle. but i would suspect your iac valve being stuck open slightly

Few 95 GT questions in 1 post

If you want to be able to get a decent launch from off the line, you will want your rear sway bar. Fabbing your own sway bar would work just fine. I would think the bends are for suspension/exhaust clearance. But that is up to you. fwiw an arc can take more weight then a straight bar, so I...

    actual bolt size

iirc they are 5/16-18.......Good luck! You can always remove one of the bolts and take a thread gauge to them, if you still have them.

Need to bypass my smog pump...

I had good luck with a 90" belt. I went to auto zone and just asked for a 895k6, 900k6 and a and a 905k6. They didn't have the 905, but the 900 fit just fine. It was a little tight in the beginning, but I think the belt stretched a little, and now it fits perfect. Scott

    Alternator not charging battery

the easiest thing to do is put an amp clamp on the thick alternator cable. If you see zero amps, you have a problem with the alternator in some fashion. Forget the rest of the system and focus on it. Many alternators are dead right out of the box. Once the alternator has been eliminated from the...

    Quietest muffler you can have

yeah I thought that there was a sticky on this topic. I think the magnaflow will be the quietest and best sounding IMO. I love my setup.

have to pass smog in AZ...help

I do understand your predicament. Last year, I passed with flying colors (literally zeros in both categories) with my EGR not even connected!! The EGR, iirc, has a much larger impact on NoX emissions, which AZ does not test for. There are 2 separate problems you need to consider. First is...

    Trickflow intake on/car can't start!

have you gone over the firing order 2 or 3 times? It goes counter-clockwise on the dizzy, 13726548 . the counter clockwise part screwed me up a few times!!!!

Moroso OR Summit battery cutoff switch

You would want to hook the disconnect switch to the main wire that doesn't go to the starter. You do not want the starter current to flow through that switch, at all costs. Scott

So I bought a new ride and I'm goin on a roadtrip

Well being an RV tech, I would say the most important thing to do would be to hook up the city water, check for leaks in all the plumbing, fill the grey and black tanks to make sure they are not cracked and hold water. Also make sure the dump valves don't leak. The cap works, but it isn't fun...

    first gear lock out?

Many times, if you do not depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor, mine will do this as well. The floor mat on mine slides all over the place, and usually ends up blocking the clutch. You may also want to pull up on the clutch pedal once, and if it ratchets, then it was likely out of...

    New shortblock shelf life?

I think you are doing the right thing John. Stopping oxidation in the bare parts is the most critical, wouldn't you think??? Our relatively low humidity helps that a lot. But if you are really concerned, you might want to try something. Do you have the oil pan for it yet? Because if you do, I...

    EGR gasket

What about making a gasket out of thin aluminum? That way the two sides (of steel) will compress the softer aluminum and make a gasket...... I am using the copper high-temp gasket maker from Permatex and it's holding up fine so far, FYI. Scott
