Should I retorque the heads now?

I have about 1000 mi. on new Edel Alum heads and I have the valve covers off to adjust the valves (one is ticking). Should I retorque the heads for good preventive measure?

    Very Best Lifter Brand?

My 302 was rebuilt about 1000 mi ago and two of the lifters bleed down and tick for 10-15 sec at start up. I am going to replace them. What is the best brand - I don't care what they cost. Thanks.

    Seat Options for 68 Vert

Golf, when you say switching the seat tracks over, does that mean taking the old seat tracks and mounting them on the newer seats? I have never even taken the seats out of my car, so I don't know what I'm in for. Thanks.

    Seat Options for 68 Vert

I would like to get stock looking seats with adjustable head rests and some side bolstering for my 68 Vert. Or should I add head rests to the original seats? Also, I have seen comments about differences in the Vert tracks or pans or something... Your ideas are much appreciated, as usual.

Complete 3G alt Upgrade kit source?

Thanks, Gents. I keep seeing comments about not being able to use the stock charge/discharge gauge (mine is a '68) without some kind of electrical wizardry. Do you know what that entails?

Complete 3G alt Upgrade kit source?

Basically, I have put a lot of sound system into a car with a newish 63 amp alt. The base notes make the lights dim - I know, its an old story. I am looking for a complete 3G upgrade kit including the alt, brackets, wiring, instructions - whatever is needed for a 68 w/ a 302. I have seen...

    Coil over performance and prices

Your car is the best looking 68 vert I have seen yet.

    Coil over performance and prices

I agree that the TCP drop shafts are a smart feature. That alone might make the decision. The prices of these systems still amaze me. The engineering costs are long ago amortized but the competition seems to have colluded on price point.

    Coil over performance and prices

I will shortly order a coil over set up for my 68 vert. I want to upgrade the worn out front suspension to get a more predictable ride, eliminate bump steer, adjust ride height, etc. I am looking at Global West, TCP, and Ron Morris ($2500-$3000). In the current economic environment, they all...

    Advanced ign cause overheating?

The bottom end was rebuilt and I'd guess it now has 10,000 mi. I don't hear any pinging, but its a vert and has dual glass packs so it is anything but quiet. I think I'll take the conservative approach and put the initial timing at 12 deg and see if it loses perceptible power and/or runs...

    Advanced ign cause overheating?

Does advanced ignition cause overheating? If so, why? My '68 has a mild cam, alum Edel heads, and the base timing (vac disconnected) is set at 16 btdc and 38 all in at 2700 rpm. With the vac advance connected it goes higher than 55 under no load at 3000 rpm. It will overheat on a hot day...

    Rear main leak options

I think you diagnosed it well. There was no leak before the new flywheel/trans. If it is unsealed bolts, the amount of leakage should remain constant (assuming I still use 15W-40 and don't change to someting thinner). Can that oil get onto the clutch surface and do any damage?

    Rear main leak options

My '68 has a '68 block and a TKO 500 trans. About 6 months after installation oil began to drip off the bottom of the bell housing. I did not do the install so I don't know what kind of seal was used or what orientation. The leak is about 4 or 5 drops per night, so really not a ton in a...

Please correct me on rocker adj

This is how I think I should adjust a slightly noisy roller rocker - tighten down the nut until the push rod does not rotate easily, then tighten another 1/2 turn and lock it. Sound right?

I think I could handle that. Thanks.

Resto, how do the trim rings attach? tx

    Should I glue it on?

I like the stock rubber pedal covers in my 68, but the clutch cover (new and old) always comes off. Probably because I'm tall and my feet bump the clutch pedal from the back when I get into the car. What do you guys do?

    68 289 More Power!

I had essentially the same motor. The 68 has 63cc combustion chambers, thus low compression - 8.7:1. I did the extrnal mods you have described with little effect. Then I added a moderate cam (Crane w/ .469 lift) and alum edelbrock heads (60 cc). That made a HUGE difference. So, as a package...
