    Will this coil work?

I decided to replace my very old coil for my 302, 9.5:1, Alum heads. NAPA sold me a NAPA ECHLIN #907. It says on the coil "Use with External Resistor" What is that? I thought I could just use this as a straight replacement. Opinions?

    I'm lost identifying this block

OK, so lets say for the sake of getting some value estimate, that the engine is a 69 302, non-mexican casting, and has never been bored, with original heads and intake - and it needs a complete rebuild. Is it worth $200 or $500? Best guesses please ....

    I'm lost identifying this block

The only code that a friend can find on a 302 block (with 2 bolt caps, 4 barrel stock intake, stock heads from a 69 Mustang) that I may buy from him is GFFC2175. Does that mean anything? I was hoping to find a C or D first so I'd know the year. Also, if it has not been overbored what is it...

Just a child with more wallet

I like the classic Keystone rims. That car appears to have a lot of potential. Carry on!

Just a child with more wallet

Damn. This really is fun. My 68 has finally turned into the car I started dreaming about at age 14. I'm now 42 and have matured just enough to raise a family, but still enjoy burnt rubber, V8 stereo exhaust, and some loud AC/DC. Thanks for all of the help to make it come true.

Voltage Regulator - electronic or mechanical?

This all stems from my electronics ignorance. I replaced the stock 40A (I think) alt w/ a brand new 62A alt before I understood that a 100amp one wire conversion is no big deal. My stereo amp is rated at 4 x 60 watts rms and I saw too much dimming of headlights, so I added a .5 farad...

    Re-torque aluminum heads......

Do you have a fan shroud and an overflow can? The shroud benefits are obvious - that alone fixed my over-heat issues. The can is more subtle - it keeps air from entering the radiator during cool down when you shut the car off after a heat cycle. This maximizes the volume of coolant in the...

Voltage Regulator - electronic or mechanical?

My 68 currently has a new electronic regulator and new 60 amp alternator. The lights still pulse at all rpms. Would the old style mechanical reg solve this? The battery is also new and stays fully charged. What am I missing?

    Need Carb tuning 101 class

The car has a TKO 500 and 3.55 gears. As for the Edel, the previous owner told me a couple of days ago that he tried two different springs (I don't know which ones) and said he was unable to solve the bog. Otherwise it has new wires, clean plugs, and a Pertronix at 14 deg timing (I have played...

    Need Carb tuning 101 class

Easy guys. So, back to the issue at hand - I'm willing to buy a new Holley or Edel (about 10 years old w/ a little shaft play). Its about $360 for a 0-80570 570cfm w/ vac secondaries and electric choke. Do you think I'd need to adjust it from its factory settings? I have a 9.5:1 302 w/ Edel...

    Need Carb tuning 101 class

Well, the change on the pump shot stroke did not solve the momentary flat spot after sudden acceleration.

    Need Carb tuning 101 class

Thanks, Coupestang. The pictures complement the written article I have on this subject. I am going to lengthen the pump shot (from middle hole to top hole) and see if that helps the momentary bog that happens when I floor it. Will report results tomorrow.

    Need Carb tuning 101 class

My 302 w/ Edel 170cc heads and a mild cam (.469/.469 lift) has an Edel 500 cfm Performer. It runs very strong from idle to 5000 rpm. The only issue that I would like to fix is that it bogs when I suddenly floor it. Any gradual throttle increase is fine. I have never touched a carb before...

Kick panel speakers - intereferes with clutch operation?

There really isn't much room for a proper dead pedal even without the kick panel speakers. So, when I installed my kick panel speakers, I didn't notice a difference. It won't bother you.

Water hammer? Or what is it?

Update - I began to suspect that the thermostat was only needing to open a little since I have a 3 core desert radiator with a 6 blade fan (lots of cold water). So I placed some cardboard in front of the radiator for a few minutes and the hammering at the thermostat went away within about 30...

    8 inch fluid change

Its not easy to get the syphon hose to the bottom of the diff, so I stepped it down to a smaller line to barely squeeze it past the internals. Its a PITA.

Water hammer? Or what is it?

Just checked. It is not a lever cap. It is an octagonal 14 lb. cap. Thanks for the thought.

Water hammer? Or what is it?

I have avoided the question of drillied steam holes in the block since I do not know if that was done. I doubt it. So, if that was not done, then those pockets could get very hot and boil. Presumably that is the theory for the clicking/hammering source - as the gas bubbles expand and contract...

Water hammer? Or what is it?

Good to hear that someone else has heard this. I thought I was unique AND crazy. Is yours audible at idle only or could your hear it with the stethoscope above idle?
