Ready to throw my holley out..

No way would I ever... EVER run a predator. Not only would I be overcarbing my little 289, but that's got to be the ugliest carb ever made. Looks like a toilet bowl to me. I'll probably keep my holley and play around with it until I get it right. I have a feeling because I got it used maybe...

Ready to throw my holley out..

Mine's leaking extra fuel from somewhere. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, but since this car is my daily driver, I have to have a reliable carb. Guess I'll price the carter vs the edelbrock and go with the cheaper. Anyone have a good carb suggestion with my combo? My cam LCA is...

Ready to throw my holley out..

I'm still having problems with this friggin holley.. I've rebuilt it twice, can't seem to figure out what the heck the problem is.... Other than I'm running way too rich and fouling my oil. I changed from 64 to 62 jets during the last rebuild, thinking I was stepping down, but now I think I'm...

    Best short block?

Curious to know who makes the best bang for the buck. 347, mainly for street use while capable of track time also.

    Arrival

Think I'll be doing the same.... with stock 14" wheels traction might be an issue now... where as before I could only break em off when it was wet... or if I dropped it into manual low.

    Arrival

I got a trac loc built with a 3.40 ratio. Originally I was interested in 3.50 or 3.55 ratio, but he said he had a new 3.40 ring & pinion laying around that he'd throw in a t-loc for me, I paid $575 for it and $50 shipping. Most of the pricing I found locally was in the same range... mustangs...

    Arrival

Received the 8" traction lock today, gotta love getting home to a huge box weighing 100 lbs. I took a chance on buying from this guy out of Ohio, he's a retired technician, builds 8s and 9s on the side, can convert your 8" housing to fit a 9" also. It took him a month and a half, but finally got...

    running too rich

I put the carb on last night and messed around with it. I had the idle mixture screws 3 full turns out on each side, fired right up, idled too high so I lowered it.... didn't smell too rich at first, but then idle speed dropped, it started smoking and died. :( All is good though, I don't think...

    running too rich

The nylon power valve gasket? Rebuilt most of it today, used the holley paper, also replaced the two o-rings on the transfer tube above the pwr valve, used gas instead of vasoline, put new needles and seats in, new gaskets on the idle mix screws, blew out all idle passages w/compressed air...

    running too rich

Thanks everyone for your replies, some good ideas in there I hadn't thought of... I will be checking and replacing the power valve, checking metering blocks and baseplate with a straight edge for warpage, secondary circuit-- also making sure the secondaries are closed at idle, also replacing...

    running too rich

I can't seem to get my carb to lean out.... Carb is a holley 4160 list # 9834-2 Ive checked both float levels and both are right below the check screw when the car's running. Idle screws are turned all the way in and have no effect on the idle. I had it on the gas analyzer at work and it was...

Killed my second tranny last night

I was just commenting on how I must've burnt up the low reverse clutches, because I don't have reverse in my electronic th-125. And what a piece of junk general motors makes...although I did drive that car hard... but not in reverse!! So I was able to drive home once we pushed the car back a...

Killed my second tranny last night

:nonono: Not in the stang, luckily... in my daily driver, a 93 olds cutlass cierra 3.3L with a 3spd automatic. It started slipping a few months ago but would still hold gear if I pushed real slow on the gas. Then last night while dropping a dinner date off, I go to reverse on a hill... not...

    idle fluctuations

yes, doesnt happen when cold... only after its been warmed up.

    idle fluctuations

Its only when I'm idling, re adjusted the mixture screws today, made sure they are turned out an equal # of turns on each side. Still fluctuating. The other problem I'm having is with my coolant temp gauge... so I don't even know what kind of water temp I'm running at the moment.

    idle fluctuations

When idling at a stop light for any period of time, sometimes my idle starts to fluctuate from about 650 to 750/800, then back down. It gets to the point where the engine wants to die. How do I get it smoothed out? play around with the mixture screws?

    Hesitation problems

I was having the same problem with my 289, it was ok if I accelerated real slow, or under half throttle... over that it would stumble at first, then go. I changed the spring on the accel pump linkage with one that was a little taller, and had more tension. This cured my hesitation just about...
