    Cutting and indexing the plugs

I've personally tried this on the dyno. with a 5.0 or 351W, plug indexing is definitely worth it. I gained 5 HP from indexing on my 351W and another 3 HP from upping the gap from .045 to .055. I tried the same stuff on my 02 GT and got 0. I also noticed that the threads in the cylinder heads...

Dyno'd Today - POOR HP Numbers - HELP!

These kind of problems can be very difficult to find, but here are some of my thoughts: - If the mixture is too rich, it may not light off. Often when I see cutouts around 4500 it is because of a mixture that is too rich. - Too much plug gap on a boosted application can cause this problem...

Porting PI Heads - Need Pictures

I'm going to take a crack at porting some PI heads for my '02 GT and was hoping that someone would take pity on me and post some pictures of their ported heads. I've been having a hard time finding any pictures and it would be helpful to have a little guidance as I start on the job. I'd also...

    Tweecer question

Michael is right. If you have the flow sheet that would have shipped with the meter originally, load that curve into the tweecer. I was assuming that you don't have it. Another problem that sometimes affects these cars at idle or part throttle is a pressure surge from the bypass system on the...

    First Time...Quarter Mile...Time Slip

I wouldn't say that I was any genius on drag radials, but using 16" BFG's (26" tall) I ran a 1.85 60' in my 351W car, but I had to burn the clutch all through first to get it that low. Based on your comments, a similarly light touch might be in order for you too. I also found that about 1...

    First Time...Quarter Mile...Time Slip

I've gotta say, if that was really your first time out you are doing awesome. Switch to slicks and you will be knocking on the 11's. -Matthew

    good street clutch?

Try the McLeod street/strip Kevlar. It's a sprung hub single friction stock type clutch that has reasonable pedal effort and can hold a lot of power. It doesn't chatter like the puck clutches either. -Matthew

    Tweecer question

Obviously your 80mm MAF is not calibrated for 42# injectors, or the car would have started ok on the stock A9L (assuming your a 5 speed car)programming. Your Pro-M meter will probably have the injector calibration scribed onto the electronics. Look for a "19", "24", "30" or some other injector...

    intake change ????s

Sometime the membrane in the EGR valve breaks too. Pull the vacuum line off the EGR valve and plug it to check. Everyone else mentioned most of the other places. -Matthew

    OPTIMUM Predator Tune

I got similar results to those in the article, but had to pull about 2 degrees in the 4000-5000 RPM range from the diablo tune in order to eliminate pinging on 87 octane. I did not experience a peak power gain, but picked up 6-8 ft-lbs from 2000-4000 RPM and 5-9 HP from 5200 up. This resulted in...

    I gotta get this straight...

Your 19# injectors will be fine with just the cam swap. If you are doing more, move up to something a lot bigger like 30# so that you don't have to keep throwing your injectors away every time you take another step. -Matthew

    Ordered Pi Headswap kit

Those guys had to be bad drivers. I ran my '97 Cobra to a [email protected] in Calgary which is almost 2000 feet higher than SIR. It had K&N, Pullies, Subframes, ET Streets, Tri-Ax shifter and 4.10 gears. Not exactly a heavily modified car. I will say that having owned both a '97 Cobra and an '02...

which mods which order for 500bhp

Edelbrock Performer heads, Pro Products Typhoon intake, Stock cam, Novi 1000 pullied for 10 psi. It may not be the most reliable setup, but that's the kind of 500 HP 5.0 you can build on your budget. Stick with the fuel injection too. -Matthew

    11:1 Compression Anyone?

I run an 11:1 351W on 91 octane pump gas with 30 degrees total timing and have no detonation. My home track is at 3500 ft elevation, but I also regularly race it at 2200 ft tracks with no setup changes and no detonation. I never use an octane booster in the car. If you are at a much lower...

    Ordered Pi Headswap kit

If you spring for cams as well you will be quite a bit more powerful than a 96-98 Cobra. It's a great way to go for the early 4.6 GT's. -Matthew

    Et Streets

On a cold track, like it is every day in Calgary, you do have to burn the M/T tires hard. Something like 8-10 seconds in the box. If they are not good and smokey, they won't hook on a cold track. I found this was the case even with L4 compound ET Drags. I kept fooling myself thinking that...

    Et Streets

26x10.5-15LT ET Streets would be a good choice for you. These tires have an 8" tread and fit easily on a fox3 car with 15x8 wheels. You can give the tubes a miss as well - they're not going to spin on the rims. I run 28x10.5 ET Drag on my '90 LX, but I have the quad shocks removed and Steeda...

Anybody gone to the track lately?

I was at Bud Park over the weekend. The track is great, and I ran an 11.93@116 on friday night with the N/A 351W. Bud Park is really a first class facility. -Matthew
