    Hello!

Yes, rears are in! I took out the stock shaker 500 rears and ripped the rigid grills off of them (maybe 3/8in. thick), then cut the grills to fit my McIntosh 5 1/4" mids and 1"dome tweeters, so with the Mc's mounted to the grills they fit into the existing cut-outs. I followed Merkurnut's...

    8" Subs in doors?

and, btw, the shaking and rattles come from cabin resonance: when sound waves are the same length as the cabin dimensions, all h**l breaks (or rattles) loose. Try toning down the frequency response between 80Hz and 150Hz with a decent equalizer. You'll still get the low bass (which audibly is...

    8" Subs in doors?

With a decent system you can't tell if the bass is coming from the front of the car or the rear... just like home; a sub in the trunk would only be 6' away, max. My sub in home theatre is more like 15' from seating and sounds like it comes from the front center. Get yourself a decent sub and...

    Hello!

Welcome to the forum; I think I may be in need of some advice, soon. Still working on adding a system to my '05 GT.

    radio help

sounds like a short in the wiring kicking a circuit breaker, ok if reset. check to make sure all your connections are clean and can't touch anything else. sounds like maybe the vibrations of driving or high volume could be triggering the short. good luck!

Tell me if you've heard this one...

Yes, welcome! And not to disappoint, but you may find a couple of more known problems: if you have the Shaker 500, press and hold the "3" and "6" on your fm pre-programs and it will do a self-test. Ignore everything but the last display: if the number ends with "a", take it to the dealer to...

    speaker replacement ideas

OMG! I think I would've taken the chance! Merkur, I really respect your posts... I'm negotiating for a 6-channel Mc car amp... 4 channels x 50 wpc at 4 ohms + two channels at 100 wpc, also at 4 ohms, but stable, published to two ohms, I estimate fully functional and safe at 1-ohm loads, so...

    speaker replacement ideas

Well eBay isn't just for housewives! lol I think I bought every piece for the car system off of it. My first McIntosh was a new 105 wpc amp bought in 1977 (it recently tested at 140 wpc); it's a workhorse and still performs flawlessly powering my center channel and sub in my home theatre...

    speaker replacement ideas

Thanks for input; plan A never works, anyway! So to answer questions... deck fit as planned, but didn't fit Mustang (lol). I assumed rear deck was flat, not actually so. Plan B: small mounts to sit over holes from stock speakers in rear, mids and tweeters only (grills over mids are for...

    speaker replacement ideas

I ended up taking out the rear deck 5 3/4" x 8"s to put in component 5 1/4" mids, 1" tweeters, and crossovers. I built a shelf to lay on top of the existing deck; the bottom of the mids fit into the holes left by the 6 x 9's and the tweeters and crossovers either fit into the new 3/4" shelf or...

    Water Leak!!

OK this may not be the same as your problem, and it's embarrassing as h**l, but I'm going to come clean on it. I guess I deserve whatever I've got coming to me on this: woke up one morning and went out to start the car to warm it up before leaving for work (upstate NY). Both windows were down...

    Power Outlet Question!

I just leave mine plugged in and on most of the time (which is whenever I forget to unplug it). It won't draw enough to hurt anything (unless an army of cops cruise your neighborhood all the time - lol). If I were to hard-wire it I'd likely do something different.

Tell me if you've heard this one...

Good one, topless, but don't hold your breath! I had the same vibration problem, left my GT 5-speed at the dealer when I went to Florida for a week's vacation. I found a post about it while in Florida, called the dealer the next morning (service hadn't found the problem) and, get this, the...

    Albany New York

Snow? Near Albany? Imagine that! Just to introduce myself, newbie and all, live just west of Catskill. Looking forward to some interesting discussions. Eric, BTW, bought my '05 GT at R.C. Lacy's in Catskill, had the known problems: separator plate, Shaker 500... still o.k. on gas fill...

    Interior Upgrade

Leather, most definitely. I believe it to be more durable than some of the comments imply, even less care-intensive. Use some common sense, though; if the car is going to be left out in the sun, throw a blanket over the leather for some protection (might even be more comfortable when you get...

    is this a good deal?

JVC, over the years, has been a pretty decent brand. For this unit, though, you'll definitely need separate amps, since the 50Wpc peak will barely power a map light. Fortunately, it has the outputs to hook them up. You may be better off with a non-amped head unit if you're using separate...

    wiring question

It really depends on the outputs from your head unit; chances are it's got output to either two amps or to four speakers. To enable your balance and fade, which you'll likely find useful, you'll need to use four channels of head unit output for the Kicker. Ideally your head unit will have two...

Audio People: I need some Help

OK, 2 cents' worth from a new member. MerkurNut is exactly right, and thanks for the suggestion about the o-scope (of course I haven't seen one since 1977 when we hooked up a McIntosh speaker and watched the woofer cone respond down to 1/2 Hz! - one of my hallmates "borrowed" it from the...
