Good street tires for 400+ hp

I just went out and measured everything and it looks like the gas tank was shifted to the right, which forced me to move the pipe to the right which made it rub the 225 tire just a little. I loosened the tank and pried it to the left as much as I could. Then I loosened the pipes and pushed both...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

hmmmm.... so with +18 offset my wheels will stick out too much? I'll take a picture or two and post them later today of what I'm seeing...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

True - but lets assume that I don't want to modify the external fender shape. I am willing to roll the lip that extends inward toward the tire and I'll reroute the exhaust if i have to but nothing that involves repainting.

Thanks for the picture David. I'm not sure if yours is lowered at all but I have Eibach springs that lower the car about an inch. I fogot all about that until I saw your picture and saw how much distance you have between the top of the tire and the fender lip. I'm not going to have nearly...

275'S are 30 mm's wider - or 1-1/4" - or 5/8" per side. What offset are your wheels?

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Ok, I've got my wheels and tires... just put one of the wheels on the back and I don't see any way to make the 275 fit. First of all, I got a set of 17 x9 Cobra R rims w/ +18 mm offset and it looks like they stick out almost even with the top of the wheel well. If I run a 245, I might have a...

Convertible - How to remove quarter window molding, front seal and dew wipe?

1200gt, Sorry, I'm sure I didn't use the proper term for the reinforcements. Here's what I installed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-MUSTANG-UPPER-LOWER-TORQUE-BOX-REINFORCEMENT-KIT-/120752952382#vi-content I bolted it all in and then welded in the pieces where I could. The stuff inside the...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

The box reinforcements I placed outside the control arm pocket had a hole that the bolt passed through. I'm not sure it that's similar to welding a washer inside the frame but I think it will help. If there's space, I can always weld a washer to the inner most face of the pockets too if that...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

I took preemptive action and installed torque box reinforcements (inside and around lower control arm pocket) as well as upper control arm reinforcements. They were bolted in and then I welded them. I also installed a rear end brace. Since I just bought my DR's - only time will tell if my...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Well, I sure hope I didn't just buy myself more problems.... Maybe 245/45R17 all around would have been a better idea...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

I have heard of rolling the fenders but exterior paint is just not meant to flex like that. I'm not sure how it's done and there is no way I'd try it myself... I'm confident they'll fit but I'll mock it up before I mount them.

Good street tires for 400+ hp

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a set of Nitto 555R drag radials. 245/45R17 front 275/40R17 rear now i just hope the 275's fit...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Thanks - What about 245/45R17's all around? Nitto 555R's come in that size and it's only slightly smaller diameter than the stock 16's (652.3 mm vs 653.9 stock)? I've read that 275's will work in back (may need to flip the quad shock over) so I'd like to try the 275's but if there is any...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Oh, what size will fit my 17 x 9 Cobra R rims w/ +18 to +20 mm offset? I was targeting 255/45's but Nitto 555R's don't come in that size. Will 275/40's fit on all 4 corners? Thanks.

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Good point... I think it will be the Nitto's then because I've sworn off BFG's - I also own a Mercury Marauder which has an odd size on the rear that was made by BFG and we started having supply issues about the time the car turned 3 years old. It's 10 now and after fighting with BFG for...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Thanks for all the replies. A question about 'drag radials' - do they compromise cornering ability for straight line traction? I'd really like to come in under $150/tire for something in the 100 - 200 UTOG range. Drag radials are about UTOG 100 and more than $150 while something cheap like...

Convertible - How to remove quarter window molding, front seal and dew wipe?

Wow, sounds like a royal pain in the butt.... but I have all the trim and seats out right now to install torque box and upper control arm body reinforcements so I'm replacing the shrunk and/or nasty looking exterior trim and weather strip as it will be a little easier than doing it with the...

Convertible - How to remove quarter window molding, front seal and dew wipe?

Greetings, I have found info on StangNet on how to remove my upper door molding (molding and dew wipe) but not on how to remove the molding and dew wipe at the quarter window. I am hoping I don't have to remove the whole molding that goes all the way around the back of the convertible - but...

Good street tires for 400+ hp

Greetings, I added a blower to my '91 and it made 488 hp SAE on the dyno. Needless to say, my 17 year old BFG ZR's won't grip. I want better grip - but not too good - as I have a stock crank, rods and pistons - so I don't want the car to hook like it's on slicks because I'd surely grenade it...
