    NEED HELP!!

Welcome to the club. There seem to be a lot of us "rookies" having carb problems lately. I'm still trying to get my own issues straightened out. Is it at least trying to turn over? Good charged battery? Double, triple, and quadruple check your firing order. Don't take anything for granted...

    Need more help please

Thought I should follow-up on this thread since I made a little progress. Using my engine analyzer and vacuum guage, I found the problem with the abnormally high RPM's, now I start her up and she stays under 2000 RPM at idle. OK, that's cool. I still have problems though. She will only...

Right, but there is one, and it is attached to the bracket. When you push the throttle, and let off, the spring closes it.

Thanks for replying. I am using an engine analyzer that you connect to the coil and a ground and it measures the RPM of the engine. The engine starts very easily, but sounds as if you are sitting with your foot on the gas pedal holding the RPM's at about 3400-3500, but I'm not. Hope that...

    Need more help please

First off, I bought an engine analyzer and hooked it up to measure the engine RPM at idle. From a cold start, it went up to 3400-3500 RPM and never came down. I have adjusted the fast idle setting, as well as the curb idle and nothing seems to make a difference. Any help? Secondly, and...

    Engine RPM

I think I have the idle set where it needs to be. I wanted to be able to verify the engine RPM since my tach doesn't currently work. I picked up an engine analyzer on the way home tonight that will show me the engine RPM.

    Engine RPM

So, I need a dwell meter, an ex sonar tach, and just run it till it blows. Sounds like fun.

    Engine RPM

Is there a way of determining engine RPM without a Tach?

    Engine starting issues

Thanks, I reduced the fuel line to 5/16 and adjusted the tune on the carb. That seems to have eliminated the spitting problem. The timing seems to be fine also. Currently, my primary problem is that it seems ti be idling way to fast, which I understand could be a vacuum leak as well as...

I would love to get a 50's or 60's model truck to play with.

    Engine starting issues

OK, I did as suggested, and it is seeming to get better. However, I am still getting small backfires, more like spitting, out of the carb. 1. I am going to install an inline fuel filter up by the carb. 2. What size fuel line should I be using, from the hardline out of the fuel pump to...

    Engine starting issues

Update: I turned the idle mixture screws all the way in, and then started backing them out 1/4 turns at a time, until it would stay running, the 1/8 turns after that. Now, I can get it started and it stayed running, but seemed to be idleing way to fast.
