    2 things I learned today

    1. With about $20 in hardware, and 30 minutes of time, you can build yourself a really nice adjustable throttle linkage. :nice: Considering it's really the first time I have ever fabricated a part I am very happy with the results. Anyone who is interested, just let me know and I will...

The battery was the culprit. It was only putting out 300 amps, but was rated at over 700. Got a replacement battery and she fired right up. Just got to get her fine tuned.

    Good News!!! and a question?

Typically, I think that is a cause. This is a brand new carb though.

    Good News!!! and a question?

First, the good news. She's alive!!!!. Some of you read and responded to this thread: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=558318. Turns out the battery had failed. It was only putting out about 300 cranking amps. So, I got a replacement battery, and she fired right up. Even idles...

I am going to try a differet battery today. If that doesn't fix it, I don't know what else to do.

It's a manual tranny, so that wouldn't be the issue. Thanks anyway. I am also starting to lean towards a bad battery. The battery is only a month old, however, I have not had it tested. This evening I replaced the battery cables and the solenoid-to-starter cable and still no difference...

OK, that is the best description I can gie of the noise my car is making. This of a really old fashioned oven timer. Not the beeping kind, but the buzzing kind. I have replaced the starter motor, and the starter solenoid. The battery has a good charge, I had it hooked up to a charger all...

    .22 rifle shot?

Cool. Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't see a flame out of the carb, but I could have just been distracted by the thought that a drive-by was taking place. I was going to work on a timing issue when this happened so that would be right on target.

    .22 rifle shot?

OK, here's a good one for you. I went to fire up the stang today, it didn't want to start at first. Then, all of a sudden, a sound like a .22 rifle. Not your typical backfire sound. It was very "sharp" if that makes sense. Car still won't start. Any thoughts? 351 Cleveland Edelbrock...

    Nothings ever easy

Brand new battery. Plus, if you read the later posts, it starts fine, it just won't stay running unless I keep feathering the gas pedal.

I am not using a carb spacer currently. I suppose I could stop and get one and give that a try. What exactly does a carb spacer do? What's it's purpose?

All vacuum ports are plugged. I have a buddy who knows more about carbs than I do. Since I can't keep the engine running long enough to really observe it up close, I will have him come over and help me. He's a chevy guy, so I will have to bribe him with a few beers. :D

    Oil flow

If it's not hooked up to the air cleaner, I am not surprised that some oil would come out of it. I imagine it's not a lot though.

No, I have not done that yet. As an update. I tinkered with the timing this morning, and I am pretty sure it's fine. However, she still stalls out. At one point it seemed like it was going to stay running. I was able to get out of the car and walk around and look under the hood while it...

    Oil flow

That tube is supposed to hook to the air cleaner. Other option would be to replace it with a closed breather cap.

    Nothings ever easy

Well, so far I haven't found a vacuum leak. The engine will turn over and start pretty easily now. However, unless I constantly feather the gas pedal, it stalls out. Any more recommendations? Could this still be a timing issue?

Finished prototype Mustang disc brake spindles

Playing devil's advocate for a minute. If degins is going to post the information on multiple boards, then historic has the right to post the same question on multiple boards. I appreciate the fact that he did, as Stangnet is the only board that I frequent on a regular basis.

    im leakin like hell

lol. I think everyone was about to have a seizure there for a minute. Like Max said, it's just the inspection cover. Would probably be a good idea to get one though. I imagine all of the dust and such getting up in there will eventually take it's toll.
