    Timing cover rattle

When my engine is cold and idling the plastic back side of the timing cover often rattles against the back of the cam pulley. I can grab the cover and hold it away from the pulley and the noise stops. After the car warms up for about a minute it stops doing it.

    Code 334

Well, the TPS really has nothing to do with EGR operation, so rule that out. To check the function of the valve itself, put a clean length of vacuum line on the EGR vacuum nipple and use your mouth to suck on the other end of the line. You should be able to hear and feel the diaphragm inside...

1992 2.3 missing terribly up to 2000 RPM

Try checking your computer codes... even if your check engine light isn't on the computer might be storing codes that could help pinpoint your problem.

    Idle issues

If you changed the idle speed by turning the throttle set screw but didn't adjust your throttle position sensor (TPS), that's probably why your engine light is coming on. You need to adjust the sensor to return a voltage between 0.8V and 1.0V with the throttle closed. If you aren't familiar...

    2.3 N/A INTAKE write up

Blue Notch- it looks like the kit from MU mounts the filter in the fenderwell... is that right?

    Beeping! Need Help!!

I think gtss has the right answer... airbag system. Did your airbag light use to come on sometimes, and now it no longer does? It might be that you have an air bag fault and the light burned out and the beeping is a secondary warning system. I once temporarily disabled the air bag system on my...

How much oil does a 2.3 take?

Mine takes exactly 6 quarts to get to the full mark on the dipstick. That's with a filter change, running the engine to fill up the new filter, and then topping it off after cool-down.

    Brake Master Cylinder Question

Cool. Did you put an adjustable proportioning valve on yours or just leave the stock one?

    Brake Master Cylinder Question

Is the master cylinder on '87-'93 2.3 cars the same as the one on '87-'93 5.0 cars? I've upgraded the brakes on my 1990 GT, and I'm wondering if I can put the slightly larger stock GT brakes on my 1987 2.3 LX without having to put on a bigger master cylinder?

    Idle problems

Even if your check engine light isn't on, pull the codes. Your symptoms sound like an electronic problem so I'll bet the computer is storing one or more error codes. They will help you pinpoint the problem.

Who's Converted their 2.3 to Manual Steering?

I'm not sure what size was stock, but mine has 205's on the original 14" steel wheels. On my '90 GT I've got 240's up front and even with the weight of a 5.0 over the wheels the steering still feels overassisted to me. The first time I got behind the wheel of this 2.3 with the smaller tires...

Who's Converted their 2.3 to Manual Steering?

Where did you end up finding one? That's what I'm afraid of. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for me but my wife wouldn't like that.

Who's Converted their 2.3 to Manual Steering?

Hey guys, I think I've got a blown power steering rack in my '87 2.3 n/a. If I've got to replace the rack, I'm considering converting it to manual steering b/c I hate the over-assisted feel of the power steering on these cars. I've got a few questions for those who've done this already...

Missing instrument panel lights (Lo Coolant and Lo Oil)

I found the same blank space behind my panel where I expected idiot lights to be. I made good use of the real estate by mounting a mechanical oil pressure gauge there. :nice:

    Quick Question

That looks to me like an engine coolant temp sensor, although it's in a completely different location on my '87. Is the casting it's screwed into part of the lower intake manifold?

    4 cyl t5 bearing retainer??

Wow, you can get a whole 4-cyl. T5 out of a junkyard for $100! I checked again and Advance carries a Dorman bearing retainer for $56 for the 2.3 T5: http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=DOR&MfrPartNumber=14911&PartType=239&PTSet=A I can't tell if it's aluminum or steel...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Thanks for all the input guys... looks like I finally got this one licked. I got a 3-pronged switch and hooked it up to the ignition power source, fan power, and ground wires going into the control module and mounted the switch next to the dimmer on the gauge cowl (it actually looks pretty...

    4 cyl t5 bearing retainer??

Yup, I found out the hard way by ordering a steel V8 retainer from Summit for my 2.3 T5. Lo and behold it wouldn't go on. I kept it though... sooner or later I'll pull the tranny out of my GT and put it on there. I think I found a steel retainer for a 2.3 T5 on Advance's website, but it was...
