how long will a 4cyl fox last?

219K on my 86 Capri. Make sure you keep good oil in it at the proper level and it will give you thousands of miles of use. Also, the auto trannies are junk because they love to overheat. You can very easily cure that problem by the installation of an aftermarket transmission cooler.

    header and roller cam

Roller cams can be found in all 8 spark plug head 2.3L engines (1989-1997 Ranger or 1991-1993 Mustang- just be aware that the later Ranger's roller cams are slightly different). The steel header can be found on 95-97 2.3L Rangers. As heads go, yours is about the best you can get in stock form.

    1983 "L" with emissions problems

I know on the early 80's cars, the Thermactor vacuum switch was located on the firewall. The relay was located behind the passenger side kick panel where the later cars had the computers mounted. None of the components are made anymore. I tried to make a rigup on my car like that, but couldn't...

    1983 "L" with emissions problems

This could really be a multitude of things. But, yes, clogged exhaust can cause some bad problems. It sounds like you also have some other issues going too. I can't remember, does the 83 have a computer controlled carb and ignition or is it still Duraspark ignition? The way to tell if you are...

    so. i was wrong.

I don't have the bill anymore. I know the part was only about $12. I think it may have been like $80-$120 labor. It's easy for them because the have a lift and can stand under the car and work with it. Doing it yourself isn't extremely hard, but when you only have jackstands, it doesn't give you...

    so. i was wrong.

A new one can be had at Advance Auto or Pep Boys out of the HELP! section. The factory rag joint is riveted together so I let the garage do mine. Once replaced (the replacement ones are bolted together) they are easily replaced again in the future.

    1980 mustang gauges problem

You did about everything I would have done. Check your fusible links and make sure none are melted or damaged. Most are near the starter solenoid. Make sure when you start the car you are getting voltage to the cluster. I'm not sure which wires are which for a 1980. That is really odd that...

    100K

I have pics somewhere of my Capri 2.3L rolling over to 200,000 miles somewhere. My 88 stang is at 84K.

    question for you 2.3 guys.

My 86 Capri had that same system. TPS is located on the front of the carburetor. MAP sensor is located behind the coolant overflow bottle. It does have TFI ignition. First thing is to check ignition and camshaft timing. If that checks out ok, run codes on it. Your standard EEC IV tester works on...

I need some help with 5200 carb

The bowl vent can be plugged off. It's basically a vent for the vapor in the fuel bowl. The line that would attach to it connects into your PCV system through a bowl vent switch (probably long gone on your car). Capping it doesn't affect the performance of the vehicle, it just allows the fuel...

I need some help with 5200 carb

I think I responded to you over on foureyedpride, but if I didn't, here are your answers: Picture 1: this is where a fuel return line would attach and go back to your tank. To eliminate this, use a later (1984-1986) 2.3L fuel pump. They don't use a return line. Picture 2: On the left is...

    Build Sheets?

I think the 2150 is the standard Holley pattern so you would have to go to esslinger or racer walsh and get an adapter to fit it to your intake properly. You would lose your EGR system at that point as all the adapters take the place of the current adapter/egr plate that is there. As for the cam...

    Build Sheets?

Yay! Another 86 2.3L!! I can tell you basically ANYTHING about the powertrain in your car you would want to know. To answer your above questions: Your car would have a 3.08:1 rear in it unless it has an optional 3.45:1 rear, which is unlikely. The transmission is the German ET with the...

    Loose steering question

There could be a few issues causing this. Some more probable than others, but I will list them all so you can give them a look-see. 1. Front suspension is out of alignment or damaged/bent/worn. 2. Steering rag joint is failing (likely. mine crapped out and my car started to wander) 3. Power...

    dont know year fox body

A few other ways to check: The door tag will show month/year of manufacture. Check the ignition coil cover for the emissions decal. That will show the model year. Check the glovebox for the original owners manual and see what year it's for. Some stuff I have found with the 2.3L that may help...

Performed a DIS test today to test a theory.

When I was at college in Williamsport, PA there was a guy that had a Pinto with a 2.3 Turbo and ran the 8 plug head with DIS. He also got rid of the VAF in favor of a MAF sensor. So, it is possible to do.

    Cooling fan controller

Your car has a cooling fan controller. It is visible under the dash to the left of the steering column. It's a small black box. It controls your fan and A/C cycling.

    Timing Belt Specs

10 degrees advance. I saw you posted up on another forum about this and got a good response there, so I won't repeat the info here. I will tell you that to loosen the distributor to adjust your timing, you will need a 17MM socket and a long extension. Not too difficult though.
