I WANT TO UPDATE MY STEERING

Agreed, I started with ~2" of play in my wheel ('67 PS) and replacing wear items (tierods, idler, etc.) brought it down to 1", then I opened my gearbox from the top and cleaned/repacked it with fresh grease, that got me to 1/2" of play. The steering parts were all 40+yr. old stock so they needed...

    strud rod /washer pics

From what I've read the stock bushings have the washers cupped inward on both sides but some of the aftermarket bushings come with instructions to mount the cupped washers facing out. I think it depends on the design of the rubber bushing, confusing w/o directions. Jon

    68 Coupe Coil Spring Help

You'll probably end up around stock height I would guess depending on how stiff the replacement springs are - 560, 620. My 1" drop 550 springs from NPD were 12" tall and the stock 289 coils were 16" tall so 1" less isn't much from stock. The 12" springs dropped my car to where the fender lips...

    AOD/Headers - Sanity check

As far as I've read one of the other main issues with long tube and PS is it hitting the power cylinder and requiring the addition of a drop bracket, going shorties should avoid that extra issue also. Sorry I can't comment on shorty brands with AOD as I'm going long tube MAC and adjusting as I...

1965 Mustang 289 cooling temp sensor?

Here's a handy wiring/vacuum diagram link to save: Index of /~djhamma/wiring/1965 According to file '1965g.jpg' your temp sensor wire should be red w/white stripe, there is a 90* elbow on the end. You can see mine ('67 289) in this pic, it's gold (brass) and just below the inline black...

Alternator - Internal vs external regulator

It's not easy to find since it's about as far from the alt. as you can get, seems like it should be on the pass. side in the same spot. I stayed with the stock VR and upgraded to a mid '70's 100A alt. to handle driving lights, stereo, amp, AC, etc. I didn't want to have to worry about...

convert 2 peice rear main to 1 piece?

It can be done with machining, can't say if it's worth it or not but here's an article giving a short description: How To Build A Better Boss 302 - Mustang Monthly Jon

Alternator - Internal vs external regulator

Look on the front radiator apron drivers side next to the radiator, the VR is easy to overlook as it's tucked in that corner just to make sure you don't have one. I don't think IR came out until ~'80. Jon

    Front suspension rebuild

The kits to rebuild UCA and LCA cost close to what all new ones cost plus the UCA shaft holes can get worn out and oblong shaped making a build a waste of time not to mention adding in the labor cost for the shop to remove the old BJ's, etc., clean, etc. Virginia Classic Mustangs has Moog LCA...

What is this on my tail light panel?

I've read that they add at least 10HP!:nice: hows that for something cool? I like mine since it breaks up the flat tail panel look and makes the tail lights look more sunken. I plan to paint mine satin black to match my hood/upper fenders since i'm going with the transam paint scheme. Being...

What is this on my tail light panel?

It's called a ribbed tail panel insert, they're fairly rare, the repops are much cheaper/flimsier and run >$400 last time I checked so if a repop is that much imagine what an original is worth.... I have one on my '67 coupe, they were an option, cost $15 in '67. They are held on by screws in...

Preparing to make adjustable strut rods

Lots of people make them but I got mine from John: Opentracker Racing Products - Lower Control Arm Camber Kit I now plan to learn how to do my own alignment. I think with the roller perches, adj. strut rods, lockable eccentrics, etc. I think it'll make getting the adjustments accurate...

    Strut Rod Installation

They're going to need to be adjusted again when you get your alignment, the strut rods change the caster so when you removed the old you lost your correct caster setting. When I did mine I just snugged up the rear nut so that the bushing was just being compressed, then did the same to the front...

Preparing to make adjustable strut rods

If you had a front end collison hard enough to reach the strutrods or the mounts and push them back the damage would be the same with the stock strutrods and the adj. strutrods as the stock strut rods are still a solid steel rod connected to the LCA and the bushings are surrounded by large...

Preparing to make adjustable strut rods

One of the main reasons for the adjustable rods is the elimination of the bushings, the bushings compress and stretch allowing the alignment to change with braking, accelerating and cornering. Pretty sure it was explained in the Daze article or his suspension101 article. The heim joint allows it...

Preparing to make adjustable strut rods

I'll have to measure them when I get home this weekend and take some pics on the car. Can't remember the tube length off hand but I got them from a different suppier than speedway as I didn't find short enough ones in their catalog. Jon

    Remote Starter Solenoid Wiring Question

Ok, so he just ran a ground wire from the mounting boss to a clean metal ground? That's fine, but your top diagram shows that you were thinking of grounding the cable coming from the stud that the batt. + cable goes to. You have a mess of wires in your pic so I can't make heads or tails of...

    Gas Cap relocation

I think they do this on the made up 'Eleanors', i've seen a rubber hose from the fender cap to a snake of piping down to the top of the tank inlet and a rubber hose to connect those 2. I imagine you either have to have piping bent in a machine or be able to weld pipes together. Jon
