How do you "physically" paint an engine bay?

I have it high enough that getting under it is easy enough. A fair amount has to be sprayed from the inside no matter what, the trans tunnel, sub frame and bottom of the shock towers where they wrap under. Really the whole problem are the shock towers, they are in the way if you are on the...

How do you "physically" paint an engine bay?

No they're off and I think I can do it from the outside as long as I do the trans tunnel and subframe from under it. I just dummy tried it and I can reach to the bottom of the inner fenders reasonably well so I should be ok. Thanks for talking me into it, just seemed awkward from the outside so...

How do you "physically" paint an engine bay?

Thanks, I'll see what I can figure out, my arms aren't long enough even if I stand on a platform so I'll have to do the bottom 1/3 or 1/2 from inside the bay or at least under it.

How do you "physically" paint an engine bay?

So you sprayed it from the outside reaching over it for the most part? I'm half a foot shorter than you so that won't work. At least I have to primer it first so that will give me a very good idea on what I can and can't do. Although knowing my luck I won't have any problem with the primer but...

How do you "physically" paint an engine bay?

I have the 3M system as well so as I said it isn't the actual spraying that's the issue, it's the process. I figure I can start on my back on a creeper to spray the firewall extension/trans tunnel, then sit up in there and spray the fireall, one inner and the rad support, stand up and do the top...

How do you "physically" paint an engine bay?

This isn't a how do you paint question, I've painted lots of cars but I've never painted a tiny little engine bay and I can't wrap my head around it? I'm not some giant of a man but my shoulders barely fit between the shock towers so I'm not sure how to spray without my arse or something else...

    Crooked Stripes

The problem isn't how long it takes, it's more likely that it gets bumped so they can work on another car especialy if they do collision repair, where the money is. They'll work on it an hour here an hour there so that's why it drags on so long. See if you an get him to commit to a start date so...

    Crooked Stripes

I've been following along for a bit on this thread. It soesn't sound like there's going to be a happy ending, you can sue but there's no money and it sure doesn't sound like Dave will make things right so your choices are limited: Have him fix it the way he's willing and see what it looks...

I hope I made a mistake sanding my car...

This is a very helpful site, I've been on it for close to 10 years http://www.autobody101.com/forums/ some samples http://www.autobody101.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17445 http://www.autobody101.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16694 http://www.autobody101.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1945

I hope I made a mistake sanding my car...

You really don't want to leave anything unsanded on the car for extended periods, especially slicksand, it ends up like concrete.

I hope I made a mistake sanding my car...

I've never had a problem getting guide coat off so that's weird, must have absorbed into the slicksand somehow? Must be hard as stone after 8 months. yeah I would knock it flat with 220, reapply, maybe start with 220 depending on how flat you sprayed it, move to 320, then 400 - 600 depending on...

I hope I made a mistake sanding my car...

No you did it right, you guide coat over your high build primer or polyester primer not before. When you say polyester primer I assume you mean Slicksand or something along those lines. The stuff is very heavy and can end up with a lot of texture if not sprayed properly, I'm guessing you don't...

    uh oh... inner rockers.

Ouch  I didn't track how long it took me but I'm sure it was a lot less than 90 hours and I'm not a pro. Thanks for the update, good to know how much these things can cost if you farm it out.

    uh oh... inner rockers.

I'm curious what the charge would be, it's not that it's technically difficult to do but it's quite labour intensive so I'm guessing not cheap.

    uh oh... inner rockers.

That looks familiar. It is a bit of a pain to do, between drilling out the spot welds and getting the other body parts attached off. You should brace the door to be safe. Your torque box is probably toast too so may as well do it now since it's wrapped all around the rail.

    R&P with Granada disc conversion

I was going to go with the TCP rack or the Randall. I haven't checked into it much, mostly the planning stage. I would like to think they have something for that application, the Grenada swap is pretty common I thought?

    R&P with Granada disc conversion

I'm planning on switching to a power rack at some point in this build. I did the Granada disc brake change a long while back and seem to recall having to use different length tie rods. Is this something that needs to be taken into consideration with the r&p setup or do they have enough...

    Removing lower control arm

Actually I was wondering about the heat concept. Anyway I do love a good excuse to buy a new tool, picked up the 700lb force Jet this morning :D I will try it tonight, hope it does the trick.
