8" ford rear, far from indestructable.....

Got it all apart, and think I had lost a couple bolts that hols the pinion in. BTW, tooth gone from ring gear, so I can't swap gears. Did get it back together last night with my spare diff with 2.79 gears. Oh yeah, I also broke my 3.5" plastic fan shroud. What a night.

    Road Trip Problem

Flat tappet cams can't survive on todays oil for gas engines. I use diesel spec oil, even with my roller block. Rotella 15-40 to be exact. Some use Delo 400. Both have the sulfur needed to lubricate the high pressure areas, ie camshafts.

    Road Trip Problem

Was your cam a flat tappet or a roller? What kind of oil are you using? Did you break the cam in for 15-20 minutes at 2000 rpm?

8" ford rear, far from indestructable.....

I launched my car hard, and broke the pinion support clean off the pumpkin of my 8" rear tonight. Sad part is, it has 3.50 gears. I have the complete center from a granada, with a 2.80 ratio. The question is, will my 3.50 gearset fit the 2.80 carrier? I may scrap the gear change, just so I...

    Performer RPM head applications

Can the performer RPM head with the 2.02 intake valve be used on a stock post 87 shortblock without flycutting the piston notches bigger than stock?

    headers question

Mustang Steve told me that tri-y's are problematic, and that heddman shorties can work with wrap or shielding of some sort to keep the cable cool. I'm leaning towards K code manifolds, and ditching my log style.

Styled steel wheel + granada rotor = PIA

For those of you with granada spindles and rotors, how much needs to be milled off the rotor to clear 14" styled steel wheels? I got a line on a set for cheap, but need to know how much work is involved.

    what is a 65/66 8inch rearend worth?

He is right about the granada rear, especially the ratio. Spring centers are identical, and I didn't even need an adapter to hook up the brake lines. Hardest part was extending the E brake cables, and that wasn't difficult. The rest was simple R & R.

    Milodyne bushings, worse than poly.

Would you rather have it say "Made in China ROC What I would rather have are parts manufactured and sold right here in America. I would gladly pay more to keep the money right here in the USA. That is why there will never be a nissan, toyota or honda in my garage.

    Milodyne bushings, worse than poly.

Even being metal on metal, that is where the noise was coming from. Had to back off the nuts until quiet. Then welded flat iron to keep nut from backing off any further.

    Control arm shims

I bought a magnetic level that sticks to the rotor. Had degree marks in the bubble tube. You can also use a framing square on flat level concrete that surely would be close enough to get to the alignment shop. I used my bubble guage and strings down both sides, and it drives so well, I...

    Headers with T5

Mustang Steve recomended the FPA headers first, then heddman longtubes or Hooker comps. I do like the deep tone I get from the manifolds, but miss the high end HP.

    world products heads

windsor Jr's I have a set of windsor Jr's, and with the right cam and intake work well. Mismatched components can absolutely kill the bottom end, and only give you high end HP. If your short block is anywhere near stock, I would suggest sending your heads to Thumper performance in Florida...

    Overheating pony

I have tried numerous things to keep my 302 cool. Milodyne water pump, re-curved duraspark, Three row copper, (used) griffin 2- row rad, and now have a brand new aluminum 2-1" core direct fit for the 64-66. With the electric fan from Hot Rod Air, it will only cool idling at night. During...

    Tie rod suggestions

Laurel Mountain Kits Geez, I thought I was maybe being unreasonable for not being satisfied with my kit from Laurel. Guess I am not alone in this case. I do know that CJ pony parts charges about 20 for tie rod ends, wheras NAPA carries them, but charges 40 each for them. BTW, If your...

    AC refrigerant question.

r12 alternative I have used freeze12 and HP38 and have lost compressors in 1 week. I see freon on craigslist every day for $20 per can. I have six in my garage waiting for me to install the "driver Kit" on my 66.
