    Could I have bent the shaft while pulling the fan off? I didn't see if it was off kilter before I removed the fan, and I didn't think starting the car up with the pulley like that was a good idea.

    I replaced the fan clutch yesterday and when I tightened the assembly to the waterpump, I noticed that the pulley was crooked. I moved the fan shroud to get the fan out, but I did not remove the serpentine belt. I think that when I was pulling the fan off I may have caused the water pump...

    I completely agree, but I don't think I can install that with the limited resources I've got. Down the road I would definitely like to put in a better radiator and electric fan.

    Maybe they used to sell the SSP but now they don't? Performance Parts Inc. does sell it though and I was going to get it from them. Your affirmation that it does the trick was enough, don't worry about finding the part number. Thanks for the help:nice:

    I'm looking at the SSP fan clutch from Performance Parts Inc., but saw that LRS carries a replacement fan clutch and also a replacement kit with the clutch, fan, and radiator deflector.     Going towards the driver's side had me 10* retarded. I've got her right around 12* BTDC now and I'll go from there with a tank of 87 and see what happens. Thanks all.

    If 10* BTC is toward the driver's side, then the car right now is about 20* ATC. I will make marks on the 10 to the LEFT of the zero (twds driver's side) and set the timing there with the spout out.

    Still working on this... I cleaned the balancer so I can see the marks and I see: ATC 10 0 10 20 30 BTC with the hash marks in between. There's a line painted on the zero, but base timing is 10 degrees right? So I should mark the "10" next to the BTC and then set the timing...

    That's a good question. I haven't adjusted it myself, but I don't know if the previous owner did. I guess I need to buy a timing light and see. I wasn't able to make it to Home Depot but I tried an octane booster for the rest of the tank. The car was fine all the way home to the auto parts...

    I had the MAF out not too long ago and I know it was cleaned then. I'm going to replace the air filter, change the plugs, and I'll pick up some Xylene on the way home and try a gallon of that to the tank.

    Would you still recommend the xylene over an STP Octane Booster or equivalent? The tank is still full, I've only driven 20 miles or so since filling up. I plan on picking up whatever product I need on the way home today, so should it be a trip to Lowes or Advance Auto? Thanks:)
