Everything you ever wanted to know about gears

It takes power to get an object moving. The more inertia an object has the more power it takes to get it moving. It is also true that if the inertia is constant, then it takes more power to accelerate it faster. Just for the sake of fun. The derivative of acceleration is "jerk,"...

Everything you ever wanted to know about gears

There have been a lot of misconceptions about gears floating around, and I would like to provide what knowledge I have about them. First, changing to something like a 4.10 gear does indeed increase torque at the rear wheels, but as a consequence the rate/speed/rpm that this force/torque can...

*VERY* dissapointed with my new FRPP King Cobra clutch

There is either somehting wrong with how you drive, or there is something wrong with your flywheel/transmission. There is no reason to have the kind of problems you are having. Just drop the $75 to $200 and by a brand new flywheel. It is money well spent, and you can elimainte that from the...

    Those with 4.30's, are they....

I pull low 1.8 and high 1.7's on my 275/50R15 bfgs d/r with 4500-5000 rpm launches. They hook best witht a good warm up. I use a line look for that. I actually have some whine with my 4.10's, but that is my fault since I installed them. I have played with the backlash on it a few times...

    Mass Air Meter Question...

Yeah, no mass air meter. Those things will give you more problems then gains. It is always best to stay with Ford MAFs if you do want one, and you will not need one until you start to run a big blower.

24lb injectors and Mass Air meter

Recalibrated MAFs are junk no matter what brand. The only time they are useful is if you have the flow chart with it (flow vs volt), and have a custom tune to work with it. You will just be wasting your money if not.

24lb injectors and Mass Air meter

Recalibrated MAF's are a waste of money. 99.9% of the time you will end up with tunning problems. Don't waste your money. Your money would be better spent on a Steeda t/a or something else.

How does a chip maintain a different A/F than the stock stoichiometric ratio of 14.7?

Ok, I think I have a good grasp on it now. Thanks for all you help Ken. I guess the most important thing that I did not understand was that it is ok to let the closed loop control try to set the a/f to 14.64. This was the thing that was throwing me for a loop (no pun intended ;)) This is...

Full length headers CHEAP , ceramic coated for $347 bucks , same design as Hookers

I think the problems is that it may increase the chance that the headers will rust. All that heat being held in by a form of tape/cloth is bound to attract moisture in the samll air gaps under the tape. The water would just be trapped in the tape until it got hot enough to evaporate. With...

How does a chip maintain a different A/F than the stock stoichiometric ratio of 14.7?

Ken, I am still just a tad fuzzy on two things. 1) Even with a supercharger it is ok to have a closed loop a/f of 14.7? If not I do not see how the O2 sensor could be used at all if you wanted another a/f ratio than 14.7. If you did want something other than 14.7, then the O2 sensor...

Bill, I am not trying to take pot shots at you. I just see things a little differently. I understand your view point, and I agree that seeing how other people go fast is great for deciding what one should do to one’s own car. You also have to see it from the guy that really believes that...

Full length headers CHEAP , ceramic coated for $347 bucks , same design as Hookers

I am really looking to get some headers. I was looking at getting the jet-hot brand headers, but these are so much cheaper maybe I will just have to take the plunge. If I do not like them I can sell them to one of you guys ;) Oh yeah, Summit list the ceramic coated ones for $347.39 and are...

Anyway to get into the 12's N/A or really close??

You really need to post that question to the nitrous guys. You should be able to run them with nitrous, but you just might have to watch when you use the nitrous. You would probably not want to lauch on nitrous with 3.73's, but it should be fine once you get down the track a little ways.

Anyway to get into the 12's N/A or really close??

Well, I am not sure about the gears. I have 4.10's and they rock, but I can see them definetly being to much on 17" drag radials and nitrous. If you are going to get gears then I would have to suggest the 3.73's with nitrous. 3.55's are not even worth the money to change them. You might want...

    Wheel spacers?

I know the problem you are talking about so well. I actually got a set of wheels that have different offsets front and back to fix this problem. The push right out to the sides fo the car, and it looks 100x better. Not the best pic, but it gives you the idea. You can get 7/16" spacers...

Anyway to get into the 12's N/A or really close??

That is really not a bad plan at all. Guys trying to get into the 12's n/a are the guys that don't mind doing a lot of work to get there. It is a lot of hard work to get into the 12's doing the following: n/a, bolt ons, 17" drag radials, a small budget. Can obvisously be done, but it is...
