    This may sound stupid but in my work truck my cell phone can make the stereo speakers make crazy hums that are easily manipulated by moving the cell phone around. Or you moving in your seat with it in your pocket. It does this at random while it looks for or receives a signal.

    Check your rear axle - that fluid can Stink and since you don't deal with it a lot you might not recognize it. If not then yeah check for something dead that you just keep reheating.

    Install an oil separator. You can get one from steeda or make one yourself from lowes. Search Oil Separator and you should find all your answers. The oil in the tube is normal.
