    It's either an exhaust leak/related issue, or detonation. I'd check the exhaust, but you could try 93 octane or higher to see if it is detonation.

    Many people say 275's fit on the factory 8" wheel, but I had to exchange 275 BFG's for 245's because the shop wouldn't mount them. A lot of shops won't mount a 275 on a rim narrower than 9". Just FYI.

    What do the factory cast iron manifolds weigh vs shorties? Removing weight up front doesn't have to make power to be a benefit. And long tubes require buying a new midpipe as well. So just for parts you are looking at long tubes + midpipe vs. shorties and using whatever you already have...
