    Where to buy engines?

The GT500KR was a mid year introduction of the Shelby with the 428cj vs the 428PI engine. (In other words the 67 and part of the 68 gt500 428 Had the dual quad police interceptor - the '68 GT500KR had the single carb 428cj engine- same as the mustang)

HELP!!! what tailshaft do i have?

DHearn : I thought that the adapter should come with the kit ( it has been 17 years since I installed a new Hurst shifter into my car) :D The Torino trans in a 'stang adapter plate was listed in one of the parts vendor catalogs (I believe it was Mustangs Unlimited) - It was specifically...

Is this car really worth this much?

As Cheapsk8 said the car was built for one reason - Drag Racing! It is the lightest body style (by a couple of Hundred on the Mach 1) with the Largest engine available with all go fast goodies. That car is a surviver - think about what it was purchased for and to be uncut, not backhalved, and...

HELP!!! what tailshaft do i have?

Someone please correct me if I am mistaken (it's been a few years since I crawled under my '69 to look at the shifter) but isn't there an adaptor plate that bolts to the tailshaft for the hurst shifters? In other words... I don't think the Hurst unit bolts directly to the tailshaft, there is a...

I am trying to see the value here.........

The only Ford performance engines that were vin stamped were the Bosses (302 and 429). As long as you find a CJ block of the correct vintage and casting date - you'd essentially be "correct" - It wouldn't be cheap by any means...but it is still a GT500 Shelby and a good restore could be a...

    my cars

I knew your first pick was a 70 since I have a 69 mach at home in my garage with the fenders off as well. (plastic splash shield and lower valance without side marker. Wouldn't happen to be a Boss now would it (seeing that looks like a 15" magnum 500 rim.)

cannot find lower door skins for a 1969

There USED to be a lower patch panel avail for the front and rear lower outer door (wow! what a discription :D ). I dont' think they made the entire lower piece available (like for the early models). '69's and 70's tended to rot out at the corners not in the middle.

My new engine is a dog!!

Does the engine feel like it doesn't want to rev at all? Feel "flat" I agree, I'll bet you have a timing issue - timing chain off a tooth, distributor off a bit, cam 'retarded' when installed. That RV cam - is it a standard 302 firing order or is the the 351/HO 302 firing order?

    Need Help with strange VIN#

Is that the vin from behind the windsheild or is it off the door? Some states 'created' vins for cars that had been stolen and had the real vin removed...this allows it to be re-registered.

    1968 289s

Wouldn't there have been a vin change for 289 2bbl vs 302 2bbl? In '69, when the 302 2v was standard you had the F code. '68 was still using C code (which was a 289 2v). If I am not mistaken, wasn't the fairlane 302 2v an F code? I just can't see Ford not differentiating between the 289 2v...

    Re-Tapping Sparkplug hole.

Is the Toyota an aluminum or cast iron head? I'm guessing aluminum - drilling and tapping that shouldn't be a big deal if some aluminum gets into the cylinder- just grease up the bit to catch the chunks and go SLOW so you can clean off the excess and regrease. Plus it's only a toyota anyway...

    67 3 spd manual question

If it was an original V-8 tranny, I'd be willing to bet it's an A303 (aka Toploader 3spd) Look at the transmission on the shifter side - does it have a bolt on cover on the side or on the top?

    69 Mustang question

Heck, you could probably just post it here (at least the first 5 or 6 digits) and I can guarantee the folks on this board can deceifer it (I admit to being curious myself!)

    390 In a 65?

Weren't there 2 cars?- I remember the cammer with the altered wheel base... I KNOW that car didn't have any shock towers! ... maybe I'm thinking of another car... (sorry about resurrecting the dead thread... I was on Vacation :D )

    390 In a 65?

I must say this has been an entertaining thread to say the least - Ok now someone has to TRY to fit an FE into an early model . :D I wonder if I can fit one of my FE's into that '63 Falcon sitting in the weeds up the street........... Hmmmmmm... lol

    390 In a 65?

Gas Rhonda's 65 fastback drag car :D (427 Hi-Riser) Seriously though - I have a set of Hooker super comps on my 390 (non mustang heads) and using the over/under bolt pattern it is very tight (less than a 1/4 inch clearance on the #2 and #6 exhaust top bolts. I drilled and safety wired...

    67 options

That tag is probably the body 'buck' tag - basically used during the assembly of the car for the line workers to know what options to put on. There is no set standard for the abbreviations - Power Disk Brakes could be PB or PDB or DB's... it varied depending on who made the tag. As for what...

The one thing you would have done different.

Oh, I have a few... I wouldn't have sold my '65,'68, or '85 Convert I would have restored my '69 mach to stock rather than selling off original parts to buy racing parts (THAT is my biggest whoops) seen the prices a '69 mach with 4 spd 390 fully restored brings??? ( this is a...

    Muscle car comparision

Chepie, The GM's (except the Pontiac) were hampered by gearing (like 3.31's and such) and auto transmissions. Since they were all completely showroom (down to the bias ply tires!!!!) the Boss '9 had an advantage with gearing (I think stock is like 3.91 standard) and a 4 spd trans. I...
