    Manifold stud size?

    Anyone happen to know the size of the studs that hold the exhaust downpipe to the manifold on the Ranger style manifold. Mine was missing the studs when I bought it.

    We swapped the engine/tranny from an '87 Cougar into my sons '86 LX. The Mustang started life as a 2.3 with a locked-up engine. Shouldn't be any issues except the 3.8 became multi-port injected in '88. The '87 we swapped was CFI. Just make sure you get the wiring harness all the way inside...

    I've searched but can't seem to find what years of Ranger or Mustang tubular exhaust manifolds will swap onto the 2.3 NA.:shrug: I know I've seen in on this forum, just don't know where.

    It looks like someone has just swapped in a different engine block and crank. At least now I know what I'm working with.Now to order up the bearings and start the rebuild.:D

    Usually when they grind a crank it is .010, .020 or .030 under. This is nearly a 1/4 and a 1/2 inch. I thought maybe some earlier or later 2.3 might have used a crank with smaller journals.

    Well, I pulled the sensor tonight and checked it with an ohmmeter. The sensor checks out fine. Looks like I've got to trace the circuit. God I hate electrical work! :bang: Anybody close by and really bored?

    Looks like I have a bad sensor. I replaced the coolant sensor last spring but it was a cheap one from a parts house, not a Ford part. When I dosconnect the wire, my fan stops. Guess I should have spent the money in the first place. :shrug:

    My cooling fan runs anytime the key is in the "on" position regardless of the engine temperature. Is there a relay somewhere that might be stuck? Any other possibilities? It's a '90 model by the way.

    Its running rich. The plugs are fuel fouled and black sooty smoke comes from the tailpipe. The wires are new. Haven't tried the coil. I'll try that tonight.

    There are no codes in memory. We tried pulling codes using one of the high dollar scan tools that the Ford dealership has but no luck. The filter is fine.

    Coolant sensor location

    On a '90 2.3, is the only coolant sensor on the engine the one located on the underside of the intake manifold? I guess what I am asking is, is this the sensor that the ECM uses to determine engine temperature? Shopteach

    Wife's '90 notch running rich

    I've thought of the wires and cap. I replaced them at the same time as the head. That doesn't mean they're still good though. The plugs are a dry powdery black, just like the patch on the drive. Its possible the injectors are hanging open but I thought maybe I should look elsewhere first.
