Chased all the threads. Brass brushed the mating surface. Cam bolt and thrust bearing bolts will be here tomorrow. Let the reassembly commence.

NO! I figured that much out. The manual fuel pump thing looks like a full cup. that requires a longer dowel

Nevermind. I'm an idiot. It just looks eccentric because of the way it's machined. But the question still stands if I need this add'l washer with the bend in it.

OK. So I can't find any info on this here or the web in general. This thing was on the front of the cam sprocket: It has a tab that locates it in the dowel hole. Also the rotation axis of the sprocket that was on there is eccentric. The new one is not: What does that mean to me at this...

Not racecar. Cruiser. I just want to to run right and be reliable and fun.

I bought a new bolt, but do I reuse this little bracket on the cam sprocket? Or no since the new :poo: is balanced? Also, on a stockish engine, any reason to alter the timing at the crank?

Should have the welder in the garage tomorrow. Orders from LMR and Summit as well. Provided I can get that **** out, should be able to reassemble the front of the engine this weekend.

You're not wrong. But this one was one of the OE bolts that I reused. Wish me luck.

Drove a nut on. Gonna pick up the welder from my buddies this weekend and see if I can get that bitch out. I figure to weld the nut on, heat the side of the block where the threads are with a torch and go nice and slow. I remember something being wrong the last time I changed the water pump. I...

:leghump:. I just realized that one of the water pump bolts is broken off in the block. There's enough sticking out to weld a nut to and get a torch to see if I can remove it.

Also, good thing I pulled it all off. Found that one water pump bolt was completely missing and another didn't have any threads on it. Good thing timing covers are cheap.

Timing chain was a good call. There's definitely some slop in this one. On the upside, as I tore into it there is zero evidence of head gasket issues. All the coolant was perfectly green aside from some sediment at the bottom of the radiator.

In my defense, that was practically 20yrs ago.
