    351M Ideas

Borg-Warner T-18, 6.32:1 1st gear, 7.44:1 reverse. With a typical 4.10 rear gear you can put it in reverse, let the clutch out at an idle, get out and walk around the truck and get back in, all before its moved 20'. Not the ideal performance trans. As for the M not making any power, try...

Has anybody done a 289 roller lifter conversion?

Here is some of the info I found when I posed a similar question recently: http://forums.stangnet.com/766868-retrofit-roller-lifter-options.html Seems a set of retrofit lifters can be had anywhere from about $240- $600+. Past that, I think youve got the rest of it figured out. Heres an...

    Boneyard electric fan

Schmaylor auto? I found a NEW favorite yard! Not sure if youre familiar with Parts Galore, but its similar to Taylor just a lot bigger and cleaner. They have 2 locations. Just google "parts galore detroit" and youll find it. I already have a 3g alternator, so output is no problem. Im a...

    Boneyard electric fan

Id like to get an electric fan, and Ive heard the best thing to get is one from a Mark VIII along with the controller/relay. The fan is a no brainer, but how much or what do I have to get as far as the wiring? Ive done some research and it seems the factory uses a 2 speed controller that works...

What are my plugs (and burnt up rotor) telling me?

The easiest way to check a bad powervalve is while the engine is warmed up and idling, turn the idle mixture screws in until the engine dies. If it keeps on running just fine with both mixture screws all the way in, theres about a 99% chance the power valve is blown. Im not sure if youre new...

    Modern Driveline Cable Clutch

Yes, thats the tab you have to cut off. I used the MD kit in my Falcon.

cable or hyd. clutch? what do you prefer?

I would say it depends how you want to drive the car. If youre drag racing where you want the absolute quickest shifts possible (assuming you even use the clutch), you want a cable. Faster action than waiting for fluid to return through a small orifice. If you want a silky smooth clutch with...

The local parts store of your choice will have them, if you know what to ask for. :nice:

    GT40 Heads

The X heads have much bigger intake ports, about 185cc, versus the gt40s at about 135ish. If youre looking to stay with an engine thats "stock modified", the gt40 heads are great. The only real drawback is that the non-P heads have large combustion chambers, at about 65cc. The later P heads...

    holley 600 cfm questions...

I paid $20 for my 600 holley (list# 1850), and Ive rebuilt it several times for as many different reasons and over the course of as many years, and have never been terribly satisfied with it. I put an electric choke on it (which I subsequently never wired up) and it starts just fine, even below...

Measuring piston dome and compression ratio

I looked at the calculators and diagrams they had, both KB and Arias, and they helped quite a bit, but still couldnt answer my questions. I called Arias (thats who made the pistons I have), and they said since the pistons were so old they had no identification number, and there was no way for...

Measuring piston dome and compression ratio

Im in the planning stages of building a 460, and would like to use a set of pistons of unknown origin, but Im not exactly sure how to get the measurements I need. The pin height may not be stock (probably not), and Im not exactly sure how to measure the CC's of the dome, both of which I need of...

    GT40 heads

Just beware of the larger combustion chambers of the early gt40 (non-P) heads. I kinda fell into that on my car, and wound up with absurdly low compression. The P heads have a chamber size about that of the e7 heads, but they have a goofy spark plug angle that wont clear most headers, at least...

Another Carb size thread?? 570 or 670 Street Avenger?

Similar maybe, but I bet you would pick up at least 10lb-ft of torque right off idle, and at least as much horsepower (probably more) all the way to redline with either of the RPM intakes, more with the air gap.

Another Carb size thread?? 570 or 670 Street Avenger?

With your stock stall and stock gears (2.79?), Ill say go with the 570. Ill also say go with an Edelbrock Performer RPM or RPM Air Gap intake. From what Ive seen, they flow among the best for a dual plane without giving up any low end power.

    Engine swap list

I say 97-01 Explorer, but you have to use stock Mustang exhaust manifolds because the spark plugs are at a different angle that wont clear most headers. Theyre cheap, plentiful, and just about the most powerful 5.0L engine made (save for a few fairly rare engines), in stock form at least. As...

    Good electric die grinder?

Sweet! Thanks! At the risk of sounding ignorant, I didnt even know those companies made something like that. A friend of mine was looking for one too, and said he never found a good one. So of the Makita, DeWalt, and Milwaukee, which one is the best quality? I think I like the Milwaukee...

    Good electric die grinder?

Ill be porting my iron gt40 heads over the winter (hopefully) and I have a good pneumatic die grinder, but at home I dont have an air compressor worth a crap, so it doesnt do me much good. Does anyone make a good electric die grinder? I wont be doing full-on race porting or anything, but I...
