    2.3L won't start

Agree completely with the above posts. I usually post on the 2.3L forum, but stumbled across yours. Assuming this is on a stock setup, the carburetor is a Motorcraft 5200 2 barrel carburetor. They are very easy to rebuild and kits are available from Advance Auto (I just bought one there about 4...

    radiator question

Comparing OEM radiators, it would be a 2 row in either the 4 cylinder or the 5.0L. If the engine is running hot, the radiator may have sediment in it or not be an origonal and not enough for the cooling demands of the 302. I would look in to a Ford Racing aluminum radiator or go to a local parts...

    capri build up.

Good to hear! It would be one heck of a journey for you, but there is a good 84 Capri hatch in a U Pull It down here in central PA. I'd pull it for you and mail it if you wanted me to, but as much as those things weigh, you'd be much better served to find one locally. They pop up now and then.

    Need opinions

Only thing to really watch out for would be burnt or discolored transmission fluid. The A4LD automatics have a way of overheating. If you get it, I would put an aftermarket tranny cooler on it.

So you're putting a 2.3T back in it? And correct me if I read it wrong, but it was origonally a Capri RS turbo?? That makes it even rarer yet. That puts it as 1 of 1,321 1984 Capri Turbo RS's. If you're looking to get rid of that 302 and 4 speed, be sure to get over onto foureyedpride. You have...

Some food for thought too: Your 1984 Capri RS is one of only 3,648. As for getting a hatch, try car-part.com It's a nationwide junkyard search that you can specify any region of the USA you want. Be on the lookout for 1983-1985 hatches. 1986 hatches have a third brake light and 1979-1982...

    Air silencer removal?

What valve spring compressor do you use and where did you get it? I hate using a flat blade screwdriver to pry on the valves to lower them.

    Air silencer removal?

Getting one out of a junkyard is real easy. If you're pulling it from a ranger or if the core support prevents removal, pop the head off and then remove it. Depending on the year of the car and other options, you may have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine just a little bit. I had...

The next engine mod will probably be the roller cam. I have a spare one laying around somewhere.

Warwickben, what's your location? I know of a good solid bubbleback hatch (it's white and on an 84 Capri) in a junkyard in northeast PA. It's a U Pull It so it wouldn't be that expensive.

I too have a Capri. The bubbleback type hatch was used on the 83-86 cars. They are not as hard to come by as people make them out to be. The 79-82 Capris did come with the mustang hatch, but with that, also had different taillights and rear bumper. The 83-86 bubbleback type capris would need to...

    Air silencer removal?

Well, I ended up spending $5 to remedy my air silencer situation. I went to the junkyard this morning and pulled the silencer off an 89 LX. Once I got home, I cleaned it and gutted it completely out. Took maybe 15 minutes. I installed it and drove around a little with it. The computer had a hard...

    Air silencer removal?

How does it idle with the roller cam? I would imagine smoother. Now that I know the speed-density system can handle it, I may attempt it (along with a timing belt change for security's sake) since I have a spare roller cam. I'm suspicious that the slider cam is worn down because it idles like a...

    Air silencer removal?

Now I'm pretty much hijacking my own thread, but this thread has raised a few more questions about quick engine modifications. So: 1. Does the roller cam work with the speed-density system. I know the duration and lift are different and tend to create an intake air fluctuation. I also know...

    Air silencer removal?

That one is perfect. So the flared end of the pipe goes in the top rubber elbow then? Looks good (as do the rest), it's paintable, no cutting is involved, and the silencer can be slid right back in! I'll have to remeber to clean the pipe real good before installation. How restrictive are the...

    Air silencer removal?

Not bad looking. I still have my stock airbox though (I put a K&N filter in it and removed the air inlet restrictor). With using the exhaust piping, I would be able to paint it too.

    Air silencer removal?

I'd like to see that setup with the 3" exhaust pipe. If I can get away with not cutting any of the factory parts and just inserting a piece of pipe in there, that's even better.

    Air silencer removal?

Looking at the inside of the silencer, I wonder how hard it would be to gut it out a bit. I suppose I could use my Dremel to hack it out. Then I would still have the stock look and fitment. I can see how to cut and insert a PVC section, but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the vehicle, and if I...

    Air silencer removal?

What diameter of PVC pipe works? Can I get away with not cutting the upper rubber flex curve? How would you cut it so air wouldn't leak in?

    Air silencer removal?

On my 88 stang, I want to remove the air intake silencer. It looked like I could just replace it with a section of plastic tube, but after looking at it, the throttle body end of the silencer seems to have a bigger diameter than the airbox end. Has anyone else replaced/deleted the silencer? How...
