Radiators and cooling problems my observations

I was having problems cooling my mild 289 w/ ac, I installed the 2 core aluminum radiator (with 1" tubes) from engineered cooling products. I have the mechanical 18" 6 blade fan, no clutch, with the plastic shroud (that has some pieces missing lol). I using a mechanical Sunpro temp gauge with a...

67 coupe not starting nor any power but has day old battery in it???

Do you suddenly just lose all power? If you turn the key on does the gas gauge move? What I'm getting at is you have a good battery but sometimes you just lose all power, when you turn the key on nothing happens, no power anywhere. If this is the case, I would go under the dash and wiggle the...

Straight 6 or 289 for a daily driver?

I would say go for the 289, build the engine for economy instead of power. Even with the 289 built for economy, you will still get more horsepower and TORQUE than the I6. With the suspension put together right it will handle great, my '67 with a 289 handles and stock suspension ride fairly well.

    289 wont run

It was the condenser, replaced it and now it's running great. I'm glad it was something simple.

    289 wont run

Good one day, bad the next. Yesterday as I was coming home, my car started shuddering (as if I had let out on the clutch to fast) like it was losing power. I pulled over and it stopped, so I kept on going. It did this about 3 times. I got the car home and now it wont start. I know its...

    Hooker headers and cable clutch?

Hooker headers DO NOT work without modification. I had to relocate 1 of the tubes, wasn't that big of a deal.

    Rear main seal leaking

The only reason I ask this is because I'm also on a jeep forum and a guy had a problem with his rear seal leaking, he was using synthetic oil. When he switched back to conventional, it stopped.

    Rear main seal leaking

The rear main seal is leaking on my '66 289 engine, its not a bad leak but there is always a small amount of oil on the bellhousing block plate. I'm using synthetic Mobil 1 15-50, could this be my problem? If I were to switch to a conventional motor oil would that solve my problem?

    Radiator swap

I'm going to buy the aluminum radiator and install it myself. Not that I think installing a radiator is hard or even time consuming I just didn't feel like doing it, but now that I'm getting the aluminum one it looks like I'm going to be installing it. The seller responded and said that the rads...

    Radiator swap

I drove over to to a radiator shop (Tucker Radiator), and asked they guy about installing a 3 row radiator. He said it would be best for me to go to auto parts store and order it there because it would cost him more to get it. I asked him about a 2 row radiator with 1" aluminum tubes, he said...

    Radiator swap

My 289 is running hot and I just don't know what to do other than get a new radiator. I would like some advice on what to buy, I don't want to spend a ton of money but I want to get a radiator that will keep the engine cool. Engine info: '66 (in a '67 coupe) 289 bored 30 over, highrise aluminum...

Do these compression test results seem low to you?

A pair of leather welding gloves works great for getting to the hot areas of the engine. Compression should be anywhere from 130-170, and since you let the car set for an hour I would say that you are well within that range. Since you mentioned power losses you might want to check the valves...

    Traction bars

With my T-5 installed now, I cant get traction (or do a good burnout). I tried launching at 3,000 and all I got was wheel hop:(, it shuddered and jumped leaving leaving tire foot prints instead of tire tracks :D. I'm looking for traction bars but I don't know where to start, mustang steve has a...

Cheap Azz Retro Shifter for T5

I don't know about the greedbay crossmembers but I found a cheaper solution than buying a $100+ crossmember, I used the stock c-4 crossmember. I cut out the center section (the flat part where the trans mounts) and spun it 180. Then I put the 2 pieces that mount to the car in place and mounted...

Cheap Azz Retro Shifter for T5

It looks good, but I don't think the shifter boot will cover the coupler. I have the hurst shifter boot and it barely covers the up the 2 mounting holes. I made my shifter out of a snapper lawnmower shifter, cut it and bent it where its 8" tall and 3" back, welded on a 3/8-16 bolt and painted it...

    T-5 problems

It was worth a try  It is my DD, I'll just treat it well until I save up enough money for a new clustergear and syncros.

    T-5 problems

I checked out the clutch, and it's disengaging completely. Its a syncro. I've gotten better at shifting into 2nd, its an art of sorts, just have to rpm match. The main shaft (clustergear) is still whining in neutral,1st through 3rd, and in reverse. I know its the clustergear because I disengage...

    Installing Intake '67 289

Thanks guys, I got it put the intake in and it doesn't leak. I put permatex on the bottom of the cork gaskets, then installed them. After 30 minutes the permatex hardened up a bit and prevented the gaskets from moving, then I put permatex on the top of the gasket. So far, no leaks.

    Installing Intake '67 289

Ok, need some help here. This will be the second time I have removed the intake to stop the end seals from leaking oil. At first it was rear seal, so I removed the intake and fixed it, now its the front seal. I put permatex on the cork gaskets, but they moved when I installed the intake. What...
