Newbie with a rust 67' stang. And some questions.

Show us more pics of the car. We can help better that way. What is the passengers side like. Can you start from there and work your way to the drivers side. If one of the frame rails is intact then build from it. If the are both bad then you will need a jig built from a good template. How about...

    Weird vibrations in drive

I would check for a cracked bellhousing or a broken tranny or engine mount.

    302 Build Ideas

85 and up Mustang 5.0 blocks have a lower rotating mass. (The Crank counterbalances are smaller.) This will make them rev faster. Also in most cases they are set up with roller lifters. Roller lifters reduce internal engine friction and follow the cam more accurately. The only snag that I...

Just how safe can you feasibly get a first generation Mustang to be?

Why worry about it when your number comes up. It is up. Old Cars are not designed to deflect the impact away from the passengers compartment. New Cars are. Simple as that. Take a new car and bolt the old parts on it and you may be a little safer. But guess what if you get into it with a brick...

    Help. Need interchange info.

I am thinking more along the lines of bolt the heads on, change the cam and lifters and go with it from there. I have heard somewhere that there was some mod done to the block or heads for the roller cam. I don't recall the full details of it.

    Help. Need interchange info.

I picked up a 1979 302 (From an LTD) and would like to know what problems if any I will have just using it for the short block and putting all of my 85 gt stuff on it. The 85 GT 5.0 is roller cam with valve reliefs in the pistons. The 79 has good compression and runs good but has a 2bbl with a...

88 Cougar VS 86 Mustang Interchangeability

Well after mowing this over and looking at the cost. I think I would rather spend the extra money to upgrade to a turbo set-up. Stupid question. How do you do a turbo with carb. I have never seen on but I hear it can be done using a blow through method.

    Blown engine replacement

You Probably will not be able to fix this. They are all integral. Call and ask for a belt tensioner for the main belt. Or the Alternator-Water Pump Tensioner. It should run about $40.00. As far as I know they are molled together and will not come apart with out destroying them.

Head Gasket replacement Now water in the oil

Well she is running great now. I am getting aroud 26MPG and decent power now. I had to tweak the carb and timing a little to get it dialed in. I would say this car had seen a bad mechanic some time in its past. My Hundred dollar GEM the nicest car I own and now it actually gets close to the MPG...

88 Cougar VS 86 Mustang Interchangeability

That was the 2.8 that they also used in bronco 2's for several years. It came with the variable venturi carb, and a C4 Auto trans. I believe it was introduced in 1975. The 3.8 was notorious for a design flaw with the head gasket. The metal ring around the combution chamber was to small. As a...

88 Cougar VS 86 Mustang Interchangeability

That is what I am starting to think... The only thing is I have the V6. I dont have a 5.0 or 5.7. I Would rather do the 5.7 but dont know if I can fit it under the Stock hood. I do not want to modify the exterior looks much.

Can you get the ECM code from the computer read. It might point you in the right direction. Try here for the list of codes http://proficientmustang.com/ecm_codes.htm I am not sure what management sytem your stang uses but if you search some you should be able to find that out along with...

88 Cougar VS 86 Mustang Interchangeability

Here is the list of issues I am thinking I may run in to. 1) Motor Mounts ( Look way different. The cougar mount in a different spot on the K frame. They are Flat and the Mustangs are angled) 2) Oil Pan ( Looks OK) 3) Transmission Crossmember ( Looks like a double hump similar to the 5.0...

88 Cougar VS 86 Mustang Interchangeability

I am thinking about scrapping out the 88 Cougar I have and using the 3.8L V6 in my stang. But I am not sure if it is an easy swap or a royal PITA. Or possibly just using the AOD in place of my C3 that I have in the Mustang. The Mustang currently has a 2.3 L4 with the C3. I know I would have the...

Head Gasket replacement Now water in the oil

Giving some serious thought to just selling it as it... I would take any reasonable offer... It is in very good shape with the exception of the motor. I just went through the transmission also... I just dont have the time or money to take this on... If I keep it I will spend too much time...
