    Most likely not since they were good at blowing head gaskets back then. You can test it to be sure though.

    They are known for leaky head gaskets so you need to replace those first. While the heads are off make sure they are not cracked or warped. That's why your oil looks like a milk shake and is too full.

    Stumbling when you first hit the brakes sounds like the IAC. It could be sticking and as long as the motor it self is OK it won't throw a code, even if the plunger sticks.

    They don't do the same thing at all. The MAF lets the computer know how much air is coming to control the amount of fuel to let in. The IAC controls idle speed. It keeps the rpms up for smoother shifts and brings it up when you turn on the AC or put in in gear (with an auto).

    Has the belt been replaced? They are good foor about 6 years or 60000 miles. If not that's probably whats doing it. They can look perfect but still make noise especially at start up.

    LOL. Hitting the oil pan? never heard that one before and the only way they could is if the pan is bent up. I doubt if it's a rod knocking if it's making a tapping sound. Probably a slight exhaust leak. The 3.8 has been around a while and has a very good reputation.

    It will throw a code for sure with no cats unless you put some MIL's on the first two 02's, (between the cat and manifold) the rear 02's don't need them.

    If you had your car on a dyno it's probably not 'stock' anymore and I'll bet you would gained even more with smaller pipes. 5" pipe is way more than a 'stock' .3.8 needs.

    If you have never installed gears before don't do it, take it to a shop. It's a job that has to be done right the first time. One reason you don't leave as quick is your exhaust. It's too free flowing which kills low end torque. Dual 2.5" pipe is way to big for a stock 3.8.
