What's a heat riser tube for?

I have a 289 on my 66 and was looking to buy an air cleaner assembly and saw that there was a heat riser tube or heat shroud for sale and was wondering what that part was used for. I know the car came out of the factory with it but all the mustangs I've seen don't have one. Just curious.

    motor mounts

Thanks fellas, I will do just that, lift the motor up a bit and swap them out. I believe I also have to undo the transmission bolt to let that come up a bit right?:nice:

    motor mounts

Im thinking of replacing my motor mounts on my '66, 289. The ones that are in there are pretty old. Do I need to remove the engine to do this or just lift it slightly?

    Backfiring while cold.

Hey guys, I just got my carburetor rebuilt. I installed it and the engine backfires when I start it up. The car does shake pretty bad but once the engine starts warming up it slowly starts running smooth. Once hot it runs great. Any words of advice? Thanks

    Harness Clips

I'm replacing the harness that runs from the firewall to the ign. coil, fuel and oil sending units. This harness runs atop of the intake manifold. I've seen some harnesses that are held in place with clips that are bolted down with the valve covers so that the wires wont be exposed to the heat...

    interior and exterior lights pulsing.

Anyone have any idea why the interior and exterior lights pulse, bright to dim, and vice verse on a 66 coupe? More noticeable at idle.

    Remove windshield wipers????

Battery cable puller won't work. It is close ended. Don't use a screwdriver, you will damage the paint if you try to pry it out. Your best bet is the special tool specifically used for that.

When has an ignition coil gone bad?

no oil leak on coil. I sure don't. The coil is dry and it actually looks pretty good. I think the problem is somewhere else. Thanks for the pointer.:nice:

    Coil location?

I've asked this question to many and gotten several different answers. Where is the coil actually go or installed on a 289 engine. I have a 66 coupe? Maybe I can put this one to rest. It is on the right inner fender next to the strater rely on mine???

When has an ignition coil gone bad?

bad coil??? That's what I hear that they rarely go bad. I have a pertronix ignition so the timing is ok. I did check the timing today just to make sure and it was right on. The cap and rotor didn't look bad at all. Anything else you can think of?

When has an ignition coil gone bad?

I just replaced plugs, wires, filter on my 66 coupe and it still sputters and sometimes stalls. I notice that it does it even worse as the car gets hotter. Any suggestions on what I should inspect next? I'm thinking coil????
