How much good are Tri-Ys with my set up?

Interesting that both of you guys chose 331s. I know there have been lots of threads on this, but I will face that decision next. Perfect rod ratio? (whatever that is). I would gladly trade 16 cubes for longevity, and am somewhat concerned about applying too much torque to a convertible. It...

    What am I forgetting?

What type would be best? I plan on going from the 289 to a 347 in a couple of years (after recovering from the trans swap cost).

How much good are Tri-Ys with my set up?

My '68 has a stock 289 (8.7:1 Comp.) and the smog bumps in the heads, a Edel Performer 289 intake, Edel 500 cfm, and dual exhause w/ log manifolds. Two questions about Tri-Ys. 1. Will they help low or top end more now? How much? 2. If I can afford a crate 347 later, will the ports...

    What am I forgetting?

Next week a Keisler TKO 500 5 speed kit arrives (with hyd clutch kit and spec clutch) to replace the 4 speed Toploader in my 68. So it will have a new trans, clutch, driveshaft/u-joints and a hyd clutch actuator. With all of that work going on, is there anything related that I should do that...

I want to burn some rubber

I have a limited slip Auburn with sticky autocross tires. Motor seems fine. I want to spin 'em without dumping the clutch. The 3.55 should help.

I want to burn some rubber

Where did you buy your 3rd member? I bet the 4.11 is a blast.

I want to burn some rubber

The rear end (8") in my 68 4 speed was rebuilt a couple years ago with 3.00:1. Nice on the highway but no tire smoke! Will a 3.5:1 break the tires loose with a stock 289? Can I do the swap with no rear end experience?

Anyone have a good experience with a convertible installer in South San Jose or Salinas area? Thanks.

    Any AutoX guys in here?

My '68 has one coil cut from stockers, 1" sway, KYB GR-2 low pressure shocks, new stock rear leaves, 3/4" sway, KYB GR-2s, 1" lowering blocks. Corners fairly flat while still reasonably comfortable on the drive to/from the event. Running in Vintage class, doing well, but little competition in...

    Stumbling Hard

I have never taken a carb apart. Is the float positioned so that if the fuel all sloshes to one side of the carb it is not available for use? I don't know how the fuel gets from the float/bowl to the venturis - gravity?

    Stumbling Hard

During the first autocross event a year ago, I finished w/ a ticking motor and also noticed that under hard cornereing the oil pressure went to near zero. I installed a high capacity baffled sump and that issue is cured. Someone else mentioned a "center pivot" float, but I know little about...

    Stumbling Hard

Would "fuel slosh", whatever that means, cause the apparent lean condition? BTW, the fuel tank was 3/4 full during the race.

    Stumbling Hard

Krash, I tried part throttle exiting a couple of hard turns, but it still acted like there was very little fuel. I'm not sure I understand your comment on the mechanical secondaries. Do you mean that when the secondaries open suddenly, there is insufficient fuel to mix at that moment? During...

    Stumbling Hard

Should have mentioned that it has a stock 289 4 speed.

    Stumbling Hard

My '68 is getting better at producing some pretty respectable Autocross lap times, but is starved for gas as it exits a turn and stumbles badly at throttle application. Current carb is Edel 500 cfm that runs perfectly on the street. What carb do you guys recommend to solve the starvation problem?

    which convertible top?

Mike, I asked this same question recently w/ no responses. The catalogs list 32oz, 36oz, pinpoint vinyl, and some other options, but I'm not sure what to make of those choices. If you get some good advice, please let me know. Thanks. Tom

    Changing motor mounts?

I am not sure if this applies, but the set of replacement motor mounts that I used came with a bolt thru each mount. They are the "short" mount spec for a vert.

    Motor Mounts on 65 289

Mustangs Unlimited is incorrect and has the descriptions reversed. I puilled the motor mounts from my 68 Conv and the 2286 set would not fit. The 2287 set fit perfectly.
