    Roller cam conversion????

Comp Cams actually makes roller lifters that are designed for non-roller blocks, they run about $300 per set. Other than the lifters themselves you would need pushrods of the proper length, a roller cam, and a distributor designed to run with a roller cam. What engine are you attempting to...

My taillights quit working once and I ended up fixing the problem by replacing the headlight switch.

Will it be safe to run Mobile 15W-50 this winter?

Just so we aren't giving Mobil 1 too harsh of a review...at zero degrees that 15w-50 will flow more easily than a dino-based 10w-30. Mobil 1 lists the pour point of their 15w-50 at -45. Would a good 10w-30 be a better choice for colder temperatures? -Yes Will running a 5.0 with 15w-50...

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! 347 STROKER PROBLEMS

First words of advice: Try the seach function, this subject has been covered thoroughly. You can also look at all the 347 stroker kits for sale through companies like Jeg's and Summit, they will have a breakdown of all the components included in the kit.

    351W in 80 lincoln ?'s

You're dealing with an engine that was produced around the peak of the smog era, that means hideously low compression and terrible heads. In order to get a car as heavy as yours into the 14 second range you're going to have to do some serious modifications.

Running HOT HOT HOT, help me out

If you're still running a stock EFI setup I would steer clear of a 160 degree t-stat. With such a thermostat, many cars won't fully exit the "warm-up" mode because the ECU doesn't think the engine is at operating temperature. I would recommend going with a 180 t-stat by Mr. Gasket, you can...

are copper head gaskets any good

Copper head gaskets are known for having slight leaks. Many of the high end racers that use them (Gary Rohe is a good example) also run small amounts of stop leak in their coolant to help stop these small leaks. I would recommend a set of fel-pro head gaskets, I have always had EXCELLENT luck...

anybody heard of running a bit hotter when running rich

When I was 16 I installed a Holley carb on a 446 c.i.d. International Harvestor V-8 that was in one of my dad's dump trucks. The factory settings weren't good enough for me, I decided to tune the Holley and try to gain some extra power. I swapped the jets a few times and leaned it out too...

    valve seal vs leaky ring

Faulty valve seals won't cause low compression, but they will allow oil to leak down around the valve stem into the combustion chamber; hence the smoke when the engine is started. It is possible that one of your valve seals/guides is totally shot and has allowed enough oil to leak into the...

Too much oil pressure? If so, how/why?

I would say your oil pump's bypass spring is malfunctioning. Some of the early 4.6's in Crown Victorias were known for having the bypass spring stick and the oil filters buldge out like yours.

    think i floated a valve.......

Most likely you have either a collapsed lifter and/or a bent pushrod. Hopefully no broken valvesprings. If you're lucky it's just a pushrod and you won't have to pull the lower intake.

    very high miles...5.0 vs 4.6

Both engines are extremely reliable and get decent fuel economy on the highway. Although I dare say that the 4.6 might be a tad easier on fuel. Best way to compare would be to talk to someone with a 4.6 and see what they get for mileage. My '89 will still get 25mpg on the interstate with 2.73's.

FINALLY got my car back from the Paint shop, *PICS* What ya think?

I am also a big fan of the factory GT lights, although I've found not many people agree with me. Your lights look great, taping them off for the paintjob must have been time consuming but I applaud your efforts, the end result speaks for itself. It's not easy to do a complete color change. I...

    Too Much Power

My thoughts exactly. Either the car is actually a clean '86 with a non-emissions friendly (and probably not very streetable) engine swap, or the guy is full of b/s and it won't run in the 12's on it's best day. If you're sure everything is on the up-and-up, buy it. If I ran across a clean...

Rebalance old driveshaft or get an aluminum

A vibration from bad u-joints is most noticeable under load (or acceleration, as the case may be). My mustang used to have a nasty viration whenever I would punch it in 2nd or 3rd. I replaced both u-joints and it's been great since. The u-joints themselves are pretty cheap, I would change...

Another question: Have you checked to see if either if your u-joints are binding? A bad u-joint can cause horrible vibrations.

85gt new Carb. Holley? comments advice please!

No offense, but if you don't know the difference between an electric and manual choke you're going to need some help getting that new carb installed and tuned correctly. Bolting the carb on is one thing, but making sure you have the correct power valve, jet sizes, and vaccum secondary spring is...
